Reactions Pour In After Leaked Message from JD Vance in Pete Hegseth’s Signal Group

People have been quick to notice a recurring theme after JD Vance reached out to his colleagues about their seemingly inactive group chat.

Earlier this year, a journalist accidentally became part of a highly confidential group chat that included figures such as Vance, defense secretary Pete Hegseth, and national security adviser Mike Waltz.

This journalist was Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor of The Atlantic, and it appears that Waltz unintentionally added him to the chat.

The Signal group chat, named ‘Houthi PC small group,’ involved government officials discussing US missile strikes on Yemen. In March, the United States initiated a significant campaign of air and naval strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen.

Goldberg later shared his extraordinary experience of being inadvertently included in a group chat with the vice president of the United States.

Waltz accepted ‘full responsibility’ for the error but attempted to share some of the blame with Goldberg.

“I can tell you for 100 percent I don’t know this guy. I know him by his horrible reputation, and he really is the bottom scum of journalists,” he remarked about Goldberg.

This incident prompted an investigation, resulting in a report titled ‘Evaluation of the Secretary of Defense’s Reported Use of a Commercially Available Messaging Application for Official Business’, published on December 2.

The report included a screenshot of a late-night message Vance sent to his colleagues at 2:36am, shortly after news of Goldberg’s addition to the chat surfaced. On March 25, Vance wrote: “This chat’s kind of dead. Anything going on?”

The previous message in the chat was reportedly sent on March 16.

The screenshot has circulated on social media, leading many to speculate that the group likely started a new chat without Vance.

“They all started a new group chat without him,” one Twitter user noted, commenting, “Most relatable politician.”

Another person commented: “They made a whole new private group chat without him, LMAOOOOO.”

Echoing similar thoughts, a third person remarked: “You just know they made a group without him.”

Regarding Vance, someone else said: “He sounds like a guy who never gets invited to anything.”

Some, however, suggested that Vance might have been joking. One Twitter user asked: “Are all the comments seriously missing the joke?”

Another added: “He’s making a joke after they found out the journo was in the chat lol.”
