Reason Kris Jenner’s profile picture trend is being used across Chinese social media

Reports suggest that a new viral trend in China has social media users sharing photos of Kris Jenner.

The American reality TV star became a major pop-culture figure through Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which debuted in 2007 and helped turn her into one of the best-known faces in celebrity media.

While Jenner is widely recognised across the US and Europe, it would usually be surprising to see her name trending in China.

Yet she has gained unexpected momentum on Chinese platforms including Weibo and RedNote. Users have been circulating her image as part of a luck-and-prosperity themed trend.

In many cases, people aren’t simply reposting photos to their stories. Instead, they’re changing their profile pictures to Jenner, hoping it will bring career success in particular.

The trend has also evolved into customised edits, with some users modifying Jenner’s photos to align with their own professional goals. Someone aspiring to work in construction, for instance, might use an edited “builder” version of her as their avatar.

TikToker Marcelo Wang, who follows Chinese social media trends closely, said: “Kris Jenner is one of the hardest-working businesswomen in the US, and Chinese people really respect hard work.

“Cosplaying Kris Jenner is like a Gen Z funny way to manifest success.”

The phenomenon has sparked plenty of discussion online, with some people joking that the switch has had an immediate positive impact on their mood and confidence.

“I was literally about to have a mental breakdown last night, then I switched my profile picture to Kris Jenner – and suddenly, I feel like I’m slaying,” one person joked on TikTok.

Jenner has even acknowledged the trend herself, commenting ‘you’re ALL doing amazing, sweetie!!!!’ under Wang’s TikTok video about the Gen-Z craze.

The line is, of course, a nod to one of her most memorable quotes from Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Business Insider reports that roughly 99,000 posts referencing Jenner have appeared on RedNote, with total views across those posts estimated at 53 million.

On Douyin — China’s counterpart to TikTok — Jenner-related posts have also surged in recent weeks as more users join in.

It remains to be seen whether the trend will spread further internationally in the coming weeks and months.
