A new poll has uncovered American sentiments regarding the rise in prices across the nation, despite Donald Trump’s assurances to voters about lowering them.
Since January, when President Trump assumed office for his second term, numerous changes have been initiated. He has enacted several executive orders, imposed tariffs, and claimed the cessation of eight wars, among other activities in recent months. The President also insists that his administration has successfully tackled inflation, leading to reduced costs of everyday items.
“Grocery prices are down, mortgage rates are down, and inflation has been defeated,” President Trump stated at the United Nations General Assembly in September.
In August, the President posted on social media asserting that there is ‘virtually no inflation’ in the United States.
Contrary to these claims, a new Harris poll shared by The Guardian indicates that 75 percent of Americans reported an increase in their household expenses over the past year. According to the survey, 74 percent noted their expenses rose by at least $100 in the last year, while others have experienced monthly increases exceeding $500. The poll included participants from across the political spectrum—Democrats, Republicans, and Independents—with 54 percent believing the country is currently in a recession.
Although Americans have observed rising prices, there is a division among poll participants regarding the source of the issue.
A majority of Democrats and independents, about 55 percent, attribute the current economic situation to the Trump administration, while Republicans tend to blame the annual changes due to inflation.
Following the survey’s publication, White House spokesperson Kush Desai told the Independent that “real wages are up and inflation is trending towards a cool and stable 2.3 percent annualized rate since President Trump took office.”
The statement further noted: “As the Trump administration’s aggressive supply-side agenda continues to take effect, Americans can count on further economic relief from Joe Biden’s inflation crisis – on top of trillions in investments that are pouring in to make and hire in America.”
Despite President Trump’s frequent remarks on his perceived achievements since returning to office, his approval ratings reflect a less favorable perspective, with negative opinions prevailing among US citizens in 24 states.
