Professor Brian Cox has openly discussed his views on the flat Earth conspiracy theory.
In a recent interview on LADbible Stories, the renowned physicist addressed a variety of topics, including his thoughts on Area 51 and the potential for life on Mars.
He was also asked about explaining quantum mechanics in simple terms, suitable for children and adults alike.
Cox explained, “Quantum mechanics is the base theory, we think. It is often misunderstood as being applicable only to atoms, electrons, and particles, but it actually describes everything. For larger objects, the behavior described by quantum mechanics can be more effectively explained using Newton’s laws.”
In another part of the interview, Cox was questioned about which physics-related conspiracy theory bothers him the most.
“I think it’s the flat Earth [theory] because it’s just bizarre,” he responded. “The moon landing stuff is bizarre enough, but the flat Earth theory implies that nearly everyone sensible is part of a conspiracy, with only a few people, who seem a bit odd to me, claiming to know the truth.”
Despite Cox’s expertise, some individuals continue to believe in a flat Earth, such as Shelley Lewis.
Lewis shared her perspective in a previous interview, claiming to possess ‘evidence’ that supports the theory as a ‘scientific fact.’
She remarked, “There’s something going on. Either we live in, you know, a simulation, the Earth’s flat, but whatever we’ve been told is definitely questionable.”
Elaborating on her ‘evidence,’ Lewis said, “I started interviewing pilots and engineers and ballistics weaponry experts, and all of this was pointing to a flat Earth.”
She also mentioned, “If you imagine a disc, or even a clock, it’s a contained system. So when people think, oh, you know the Flat Earthers, they’re going to fall off the edge, no. It could either be an infinite plane, or it could be a contained system with a dome.”
However, substantial research contradicts this theory, and a video from an astronaut provides a straightforward rebuttal.
The TikTok page @spacemanedu features a clip that clearly shows the Earth as round.
