Rep. Jasmine Crockett took the stage at AT&T Stadium outside Dallas on Saturday to present a congressional proclamation to Chris Brown and Usher during their joint concert performance.
Crockett, 43, was joined by State Rep. Venton Jones and music producer RoccStar for the presentation, which entered both artists into the Congressional Record. The Texas Democrat, who lost her party’s Senate primary to Rep. James Talarico earlier this year, used the moment to celebrate what she called “Black joy at the highest level.”
“We are here because of Chris Brown!” Crockett is seen shouting in video of the announcement, as a grinning Brown stood before the crowd to rapturous applause.
She continued, “We are experiencing Black joy at the highest level. And I wanted to make sure we document that at the congressional level. So let’s give it up again for Chris Brown.”
Crockett called Brown “a real one” during the presentation, after which the two shared a hug onstage.
Brown, 36, thanked the congresswoman before she exited. “I appreciate all the love. You know I f–k with y’all for real,” he said.
The proclamation made no apparent mention of Brown’s extensive legal history, including his 2009 guilty plea for assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna in a case that drew international attention. The “Look at Me Now” singer has faced additional charges since, including a 2023 nightclub incident where he allegedly smashed a bottle over a music producer’s head, a charge to which he later pleaded guilty.
Usher, 47, was named alongside Brown in the congressional recognition celebrating the two artists’ impact on music and culture.
The Dallas-area stadium show marked a stop on the ongoing tour pairing the two R&B performers, with Crockett using her platform to elevate the moment to official federal recognition.
A representative from Crockett’s office did not respond to request for comment on the presentation or whether the congresswoman considered Brown’s legal record in deciding to honor him.
The joint tour continues with upcoming performances scheduled across North America.
