Revealed: The Most Disappointing Airlines of 2024, Featuring Unexpected High Performers

We all have our favorite travel providers for various reasons, but now there’s a conclusive list of the best and worst airlines for this year, with some results that might surprise you.

AirHelp, a flight compensation company, has ranked the world’s airlines using three key factors to determine the best services.

The criteria include ‘on-time performance’, which monitors the punctuality of flights; customer service, which evaluates passenger ratings of airlines’ food, comfort, and crew; and claim processing, which measures how effectively airlines manage claims and compensate passengers.

Based on this data, AirHelp evaluated 109 airlines, revealing some unexpected outcomes, such as a long-standing winner losing its top position.

This year, Brussels Airlines, based in Belgium, was ranked as the number one airline in the world by AirHelp.

The airline operates flights to over 100 destinations in Europe, North America, and Africa. Last year, it was not in the top 10 but was ranked 12th.

Evidently, the airline staff have made significant improvements, as Brussels Airlines’ rise to first place pushed Qatar Airways to second, after it had held the top spot since 2018.

Notably, the top 10 also includes United Airlines and American Airlines, which have consistently ranked high for the third year in a row, despite facing significant disruptions that affected domestic flights in the US recently.

Here is the top 10 list:

10 – Air Serbia

9 – Widerøe

8 – Air Arabia

7 – LOT Polish Airlines

6 – Austrian Airlines

5 – Play

4 – American Airlines

3 – United Airlines

2 – Qatar Airways

1 – Brussels Airlines

In terms of airlines that left customers least satisfied, AirHelp identified a variety of companies worldwide as the worst performers.

Tunisair, based in Tunisia, unfortunately, landed at the bottom in the 109th position, with AirHelp noting an on-time performance score of 4.7, a customer opinion score of 6, and a claims processing score of 0.2, all rated out of 10.

Here’s the full list of the worst-performing airlines:

Upon releasing the rankings, AirHelp CEO Tomasz Pawliszyn expressed hope that the list would ‘encourage airlines to continuously listen to passenger feedback’.
