Joe Jonas is said to have initiated divorce proceedings against his former wife, Sophie Turner, after overhearing some unkind remarks on footage from a doorbell camera.
Jonas, now 35, and Turner, 28, disclosed their separation last September with a joint statement on Instagram, stating that they were bringing their four-year marriage to an ‘amicable end’.
The couple first crossed paths in October 2016 after making a connection on Instagram and subsequently married three years later at a wedding chapel in Las Vegas.
A year after their wedding, the Joan actor gave birth to their first daughter, Willa. They welcomed their second child, Delphine, in 2022.
Not long after Delphine’s birth, Jonas, a member of the Jonas Brothers, sought a divorce from Turner. Sources suggested that a conversation overheard on a digital doorbell device was the tipping point.
An insider allegedly informed US Weekly that Turner, known for her role in Game of Thrones, was overheard making ‘some not-so-nice things about Jonas’ while speaking to a friend.
The source claimed, “It wasn’t anything more than that, but that was the final straw.”
They added, “Nobody thought things would get this nasty between Joe and Sophie.
“Friends are hopeful they can be mature for the sake of the kids, but neither one is going to acquiesce to the other. This could go on for a very long time.”
The specific words Turner reportedly spoke on the ring camera remain undisclosed.
After announcing their split, Jonas made an appearance at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles with his brothers. He mentioned he had been through a ‘tough week’.
“I just wanna say, look, if you don’t hear it from these lips, don’t believe it. OK? Thank you everyone for your love and support. Me and my family love you guys,” he stated.
On September 21, Turner initiated legal action against her former spouse, alleging ‘wrongful retention’ of their daughters.
According to People, the lawsuit sought ‘the immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained’.
The court documents indicated that Jonas had ‘possession of the children’s passports’ and was ‘refusing to return the passports to the mother’.
It was also highlighted that Jonas and Turner had agreed in December 2022 that England would become their ‘forever home’ and that the dissolution of their marriage occurred ‘very suddenly’.
The divorce between Turner and Jonas was finalized by Florida judge Gina Beovides.
The judge also ratified a confidential agreement concerning the division of assets, spousal support, and custody of their two daughters.
Beovides declared their marriage ‘irretrievably broken’, stating: “The marriage between the parties is dissolved and the parties are restored to the status of being single.”
