Homer Gere has spoken about his newest project and said his time on Euphoria gave him some grounding for the more daring moments in The Shards.
The 26-year-old actor, whose parents are Richard Gere and Carey Lowell, is continuing the family tradition in film and television. Born on February 6, 2000, in New York City, Homer graduated from Brown University in 2024 with a degree in psychology and a minor in visual art.
Richard Gere is known for titles including Pretty Woman and American Gigolo, while Lowell has appeared in License to Kill and Law & Order.
After building credits through several short films, Homer also appeared in the final season of HBO’s Euphoria.
That part saw him share the screen with Sydney Sweeney, who plays Cassie in the series. Homer appeared in four episodes of the third season, playing the character Dylan Reid, a fictional television star.
Speaking to The Post, Homer described one of their scenes as both “wild” and “funny”, with his character Dylan Reid being seduced by Cassie after their first date.
In the scene, Cassie undresses and climbs onto Dylan, and the encounter becomes so chaotic that the bed collapses and a painting is knocked from the wall.
Afterward, Cassie takes Dylan’s phone, posts a picture of them together and writes:
“World’s greatest f**k @itsjustmecassie.”
Homer said that experience ended up helping him when stepping into his latest role in The Shards.
He explained:
“[The Euphoria scene] did prepare me, a little bit – for doing some of the dancing stuff [in The Shards] and being pretty out-there.”
FX’s The Shards is an erotic coming-of-age thriller set in Los Angeles in 1981, created by Ryan Murphy and based on Bret Easton Ellis’ 2023 semi-autobiographical novel of the same name. The series features Homer alongside Kaia Gerber, Hayes Warner, Igby Rigney, Wes Bentley, Evan Rachel Wood, and Jordan Roth.
The story follows 17-year-old Bret Easton Ellis, played by Igby Rigney, during his final year at the exclusive Buckley prep school. Homer takes on the role of enigmatic newcomer Robert Mallory, whose mysterious arrival coincides with a string of grisly murders connected to a serial killer known as “The Trawler.” The novel marks Ellis’ first work of fiction in 13 years and was published in January 2023.
Disney+’s synopsis states:
“A group of privileged high school seniors at an elite prep school navigate identity, sex, jealousy, obsession and the dangers lurking beneath the surface of American adolescence.”
Executive producer Brad Simpson also shared his thoughts with Vogue:
“[The Shards] brings together a lot of the things that Bret does incredibly well but also what Ryan is known for,” he says. “When you look at the combination of American Psycho and Less Than Zero, you also look at the combination of Glee and American Horror Story.”
On Homer’s audition, Simpson added:
“When Homer came in, he had this intensity and intelligence but also a mystery about him that you really wanted in Robert Mallory.”
The Shards is a 10-episode series currently due to debut tomorrow, August 5, on FX and Hulu.
It will then arrive on Disney+ on August 6.
