Officials have released the likely cause of death of the beloved fitness icon Richard Simmons.
At age 76, Richard Simmons was discovered unresponsive at his home by his housekeeper on July 13.
The housekeeper promptly dialed 911 after finding Simmons. Tragically, he was declared dead at his residence.
“The world has truly lost an angel,” Tom Estey, Simmons’ longtime publicist, confirmed his demise.
Although Simmons’ death doesn’t appear to involve foul play, the police have initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death at 76.
The Los Angeles Fire Department has released a statement providing insights into the situation and the likely cause of Simmons’ death.
“On July 13, 2024, at 9:55 AM, the LAFD responded to a Suspected Death Incident at the 1300 block of N Belfast Drive,” LAFD Captain Erik Scott told ET.
“Upon arrival, one rescue ambulance discovered a 76-year-old male who was pronounced deceased on-scene by firefighter/paramedics due to apparent natural causes. As a result, no hospital transport was necessary.”
Though initial assessments suggest natural causes, the official cause of death is pending further evaluation by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
According to People, the Medical Examiner’s Office stated that the cause of death has been deferred pending more investigation and tests, which may take up to three months to conclude.
UNILAD has reached out to the Medical Examiner’s Officer for additional comments.
Earlier this year, Simmons shared his diagnosis of skin cancer, which came after he noticed a suspicious mark under his eye.</,p>
The celebrated fitness guru sought medical advice, leading him to a cancer specialist who diagnosed him with Basal Cell Carcinoma, often caused by sun exposure.
Simmons recounted his treatment experience on Facebook. “As he started burning my skin a tear dropped down my cheek. You can’t cry during this and he wiped my tear. The burning really hurt my skin. It lasted about 30 minutes. ‘Come back in an hour and a half and see if I got it all out,’” he wrote.
Despite undergoing treatment, it remains unclear if all the cancer cells were successfully removed before his death.
