Jake, 35, wed Gilfillan earlier this month, according to a Monday report. The marriage comes just eight months after the brutal stabbing deaths of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, in their California home. The couple had been together long enough to make a joint red carpet appearance at the New York City “Things Like This” premiere in May 2025, and Jake posted Instagram photos of them attending a wedding together in Las Vegas that October.

A telling detail surfaced during Jake’s first sit-down interview last Thursday with KABC-TV’s Marc Cota-Robles: he was already wearing a gold band on his left ring finger. The interview marked his most extensive public remarks about the December 2025 murders that killed both his parents and led to the arrest of his middle brother, Nick Reiner, 32.

During that emotional broadcast, Jake addressed the fractured state of his shattered family. “I mean, he’s in jail so … you know, it’s like I physically lost my parents and then Nick was arrested and now it’s just me and [my younger sister] Romy,” he said.

The “When Harry Met Sally…” director and his wife of 36 years had never given up on Nick, Jake noted, despite their son’s struggles with drug abuse and a schizophrenia diagnosis. That devotion ended in violence that December night, leaving Jake to navigate a grief compounded by the identity of the alleged killer.

In April, Jake laid bare that anguish in a Substack essay. “We lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable,” he wrote.

“Sure, any loss of a parent is devastating, but nothing compares to losing both of them at the same time and, on top of that, having your brother be at the center of it,” he continued in the same piece. “It’s almost too impossible to process.”

The rage, Jake told Cota-Robles, has been relentless. “It manifests into rage, into how unfair this was, how I didn’t get a say in what happened,” he shared about his complicated feelings. “I didn’t get to stop it from happening.”

He pressed further on that helplessness: “I had no choice in the matter. I just have to accept the reality of it. And to me, that is just one of the most infuriating parts of all of this.”

Jake has not spoken to Nick since their parents’ deaths, he confirmed in the interview. The silence between brothers underscores the irreparable rupture left by the killings, even as Jake attempts to build new beginnings.

The wedding to Gilfillan represents a private milestone in a year of public horror. Beyond the red carpet appearance and the Las Vegas wedding photos Jake shared on Instagram, little has emerged about the couple’s relationship timeline or ceremony details. The low-key nature of the reported marriage stands in sharp contrast to the media scrutiny that has surrounded the Reiner family since December.

Jake’s decision to speak with KABC-TV came after he testified in proceedings related to the case, a courtroom appearance that marked his first major public engagement since the murders. His Substack essay in April had already established him as the family’s most forthcoming voice, using the platform to process what he described as unprocessable.

The killings of Rob and Michele Reiner in their California home in December 2025 sent shockwaves through Hollywood and beyond. Their middle child, Nick Reiner, was arrested for the slayings. The case has drawn intense interest not only because of Rob Reiner’s stature as the director behind beloved films including “When Harry Met Sally…” and “The Princess Bride,” but because of the devastating family dynamics at its core.

Jake and his younger sister Romy have since made public appearances honoring their parents, including throwing ceremonial first pitches at a Dodger game as tribute to the late couple.
