Rob Reiner and Wife Michele’s Children Release Update Amid Brother’s Custody in Parents’ Murder Case

The children of Rob and Michele Reiner have issued another statement as their brother remains detained on charges related to their parents’ deaths.

On December 14, the acclaimed Hollywood director and his wife were discovered fatally stabbed in their $13.5 million Brentwood, LA, home.

Shortly thereafter, authorities confirmed the arrest of the couple’s 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, who is suspected of murder.

Nick made a brief court appearance on December 17, where he was informed of the charges, including two counts of first-degree murder and the use of a dangerous weapon. In response, his siblings, Jake and Romy, issued a poignant statement.

Following the court proceedings, Jake and Romy spoke to People, describing the loss of their parents as ‘horrific and devastating’ and emphasizing that it is ‘something that no one should ever experience’.

The siblings, aged 34 and 27, also announced they are organizing a funeral for their parents, Rob and Michele.

Their representative conveyed to PEOPLE: “They will share information about a memorial service honoring their parents at a later date.”

“Jake and Romy Reiner remain grateful for the outpouring of love and support they have received.”

Previously, the siblings stated that their parents weren’t just parental figures but also their best friends. They expressed gratitude for the messages of condolences, kindness, and support from family, friends, and strangers alike.

They further requested: “We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the cause of death for Rob and Michele as multiple sharp force injuries and ruled them as homicides.

Reports suggest that Rob had a dispute with his son the evening before the incident at a lavish Christmas event.

It is also noted that Romy discovered her parents’ bodies in their California residence and made the emergency call to 911.

Nick has enlisted high-profile attorney Alan Jackson to defend him.

During his court appearance, Nick waived his right to enter a plea. He appeared shackled and in a blue anti-suicide smock.

He was not shown on camera and spoke minimally during the proceedings. He responded ‘yes, your honour’ when Judge Theresa McGonigle inquired if he understood his right to a speedy trial, as reported by BBC.

If found guilty of the murder charges, Nick Reiner could potentially face the death penalty.

His subsequent court date is set for January 7 next year.
