Following an altercation during their latest show, fans of the rock band Jane’s Addiction are speculating that this might mark the end of the legendary group.
The incident transpired mid-performance in Boston on Friday, September 13, when lead vocalist Perry Farrell unexpectedly lashed out and punched guitarist Dave Navarro.
Eyewitnesses reported that Farrell was cursing into his microphone before reaching a breaking point and directing his anger at Navarro.
Those in attendance took to Twitter, noting that Farrell’s rage appeared to have been simmering for several songs, especially during the performance of their hit, ‘Mountain Song’.
According to fans, Farrell began yelling at Navarro before the situation escalated to physical violence.
The remainder of the concert was subsequently called off due to the altercation.
During the incident, Navarro attempted to shield himself by placing his arm between himself and Farrell.
Stage crew members then hurried to intervene, restraining Farrell and dragging him off stage with the help of bassist Eric Avery.
The stage lights were dimmed to offer the band some privacy to decide on their next steps. Eventually, blue lights illuminated the stage as the band exited.
Shortly after, the remaining band members reassembled on stage. Fans witnessed Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins, and Avery embrace each other and flash peace signs, prompting cheers from the audience.
This incident couldn’t have come at a worse time, as the band still has tour dates scheduled for the rest of the month, following their reunion after 15 years apart.
It’s now uncertain if they will fulfill those remaining dates.
Fans have since shared their experiences from that night on social media.
One attendee wrote: “I was there. The crowd was bemused. Half p****d the show ended early and half excited we may have seen the last Janes A show ever.”
Another person commented that the band was likely done: “For sure that this was last day of J Addiction.”
This may have been the culmination of prolonged issues, as the band had already performed two nights in New York City, where Farrell struggled with his voice.
Farrell addressed the crowd at Pier 17: “Ladies and gentlemen, I have to be honest with you. Something’s wrong with my voice. I just can’t get the notes out all of a sudden.”
Avery assured fans in an Instagram post that they intended to improve upon their New York performance: “Looking forward to getting another crack at this spectacular rooftop venue tonight. I’m optimistic we will be better.”
