Ryan Reynolds has faced backlash after Deadpool & Wolverine enthusiasts found out that his daughter delivered an explicit line in the movie.
The revelation left fans stunned when Reynolds disclosed that his daughter Inez, who was seven at the time, uttered an ‘inappropriate’ line in the film.
While recording a commentary track with the film’s director Shawn Levy, Reynolds explained that Inez played a small role as Kidpool and delivered an unexpected line: “Hey, when I want your opinion I’ll take Wolverine’s d**k out of your mouth.”
Watching the scene, Reynolds confessed, “Guiltily, that is my daughter Inez.”
“I’m so sorry we have to admit that,” commented Shawn, as Ryan continued, “And I am father of the year over here for allowing her to say such language, which to her credit she really didn’t want to say.
“And then [she] came back later and said ‘I want to say it now’ when I started looking at other people to play.”
Shawn mentioned that they had numerous versions of the line, adding, “Yeah but Ryan, to our discredit, we made Nezzy do, I am not s*****g you, 70 to 500 versions of that line.”
“Yeah, I’m going to pay for that later,” Ryan remarked.
This disclosure led to outrage, with a Reddit thread emerging to debate Reynolds’ remarks.
One user commented, “There’s no reason she needed to deliver that line herself. It’s a character with a mask and no visible mouth, it could easily have been dubbed over.”
Another added, “She’s the same age as my kid. I couldn’t imagine ANYTHING that would 1. get me to do this to my kid (or any kid) or 2. would be okay with my husband having done it.”
A third person stated, “The, ‘…which, to her credit, she really didn’t want to say…’ is enough for me. I don’t care what the ‘intent’ was behind the line – it is overtly sexual and no kid has any business saying it, let alone in a movie made by their parent.”
A fourth individual commented, “Wow. This is so disgusting to me that I will truly think of it every time I see him now.”
Another user remarked, “If it was just swearing, that’s one thing but an outright sexual reference? That’s gross and unnecessary. You could’ve gotten an adult to sound like a child to deliver this line.”
