Ryan Seacrest Says CNN Cutting Alcohol for NYE Hosts Is a ‘Good Idea’ After Last Year’s Drama

Ryan Seacrest has expressed his support for CNN’s rumored policy of limiting alcohol consumption among its hosts during the New Year’s Eve broadcast.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 48-year-old TV host declared that he “doesn’t advocate drinking while on the air” and that it’s “probably a good idea” for CNN to scale back.

Ryan Seacrest revealed that ABC employees, including himself, will hold off on consuming alcohol until after 1:05 a.m. this New Year’s Eve. The host of “Dick Clark’s Rockin’ Eve” acknowledged that viewers may want NYE anchors to “drink more” for the purpose of entertainment.

“There’s some pretty respectable people or at least one, right?” Seacrest quipped about CNN’s “New Year’s Eve Live.” Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen co-host the show. “I think there’s a serious journalist and then a friend of mine who has a lot of fun, but it’s probably a good idea.”

Ryan Seacrest has suggested that the CNN hosts who criticized his show last year were under the influence of alcohol. The incident in question occurred when the CNN host said, “If you’re watching ABC, you’re watching nothing.”

Seacrest said the comments were likely due to the consumption of alcohol. He stated, “I don’t think they would say what they said about our performers if they weren’t drinking.”

“I might send them some Casa Dragones Tequila just to tempt them while they’re on the air,” he said.

Andy Cohen has defended his New Year’s Eve rant on air, saying he won’t be shamed for it. After the incident, which saw the Bravo star exchange barbs with fellow presenter Ryan Seacrest, Cohen said that he and Anderson Cooper had a blast.

Cohen had previously revealed his only direction for the broadcast was to have fun and that he was happy to “cocktail it up”.

“I think people enjoy seeing me feed Anderson shots and that’s on the menu,” he continued.

“Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest” will be broadcast from Times Square with co-hosts Liza Koshy and Jessie James Decker.
