Sabrina Carpenter criticized for simulating explicit act during concert performance

Sabrina Carpenter has faced online criticism after she was seen ‘simulating a sex act’ during a live performance.

This incident took place at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on Monday (November 18) as part of her Short n’ Sweet Tour.

This isn’t the first instance where Carpenter’s provocative performances have stirred controversy among fans.

Earlier in September, at the MTV Awards, Carpenter performed a set of singles from her latest album, Short n’ Sweet.

During her performance of ‘Taste,’ she paused to share an intimate kiss with a backup dancer dressed as an alien.

The music video for the single also sparked debate, featuring Carpenter and Jenna Ortega in a staged love triangle.

In a recent performance of ‘Juno,’ Carpenter again faced criticism for mimicking a sexual act on stage.

In online videos, Carpenter is seen kneeling and appearing to simulate oral sex with her microphone.

One user commented on X: “We need better role models for children.”

Another added: “Can she stop sexualizing herself for 1 minute? LITERAL children are watching this, not just at the concert but also as it keeps appearing on my niece’s youtube.”

However, some defended the former Disney star, with one user stating: “She’s an adult and doesn’t work for the company currently. She can do whatever she wants.”

Another supporter said: “It’s her concert. People are there to have fun and so is she and it’s her right to choose how she wants to have fun in her own concert.”

Many reminded others that Carpenter is an adult and can decide how she performs on stage.

This was just the latest instance of Carpenter acting out sexual positions during her tour.

Since the tour’s start on June 20, Carpenter has imitated various moves, while singing the line ‘have you ever tried this one?’

Carpenter gained fame for her role in the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World, a spinoff of Boy Meets World. She also served as an opening act on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

“Full transparency: I’ve never really been on charts until quite recently, so it’s a newfound, like… I’m interested,” Carpenter told the Guardian in August.

“It’s not the reason I write music and it’s not the reason I’ll ever write music. It’s like the sprinkles on top of the sundae.

“You start to realize that there’s more to all of it than just, like, blood, sweat and tears and love and talent and passion. There’s beautiful sides to this and there’s really dark, weird sides to all of it.

“I just love doing it – there’s sort of a need for it – and when that’s the thing that’s driving you, success doesn’t really matter. You’re just gonna keep going regardless.”
