Sabrina Carpenter faces criticism for NSFW stage performance on European tour

Sabrina Carpenter is once again stirring controversy due to a provocative act in her European tour.

For those unaware, the 25-year-old ‘Espresso’ singer has been drawing attention globally with her Short n’ Sweet tour, largely because of a bold dance routine.

During her performance of the song ‘Juno’, Sabrina has established a pattern of mimicking sexual positions before launching into the chorus, posing the question: “Wanna try out some freaky positions? Have you ever tried this one?”

In Los Angeles last November, she acted out an oral sex scene by getting on her knees. In the UK, she bent over backwards, quite literally, to replicate the London bridge, and in Paris, she crouched between two dancers to portray the Eiffel Tower.

Many critics have labeled these performances as inappropriate and “crass” for young audiences.

A recent performance in Stockholm, Sweden was recorded by @vojtasrep on TikTok, capturing Sabrina simulating ‘motorboating’ while singing, a move some see as a nod to the LGBTQ+ community.

However, there has been a backlash on Twitter, with many expressing their disapproval of the latest ‘Juno’ move.

One critic questioned how parents could explain such performances to their children, while others described her as “cringey” or an “industry plant” aiming to negatively influence youth.

Another frustrated viewer suggested that she craves attention, saying, “And can we just give it all to her in one big lump sum now so she can just like stop? She’s not provocative enough to actually BE provocative she’s just like a tipsy teenage girl at a party trying to get attention.”

Despite criticism, numerous fans have defended her actions, noting the performances are not meant for children and are a positive expression for the LGBTQ+ community.

One fan recalled seeing more revealing content at a Kiss concert at a young age and defended Carpenter’s music as being adult-oriented, with explicit language and themes.

“She is a grown woman making music for grown people. End of story,” stated another supporter.

Others have commented on the fun and enjoyment Sabrina seems to be having during her tour.

“Wow why is there actually so many miserable losers in the comments?” remarked another fan, “Like straight up hateful, miserable people angry at this girl who’s been working since childhood having some fun and laughs onstage? Crazy to see I hope she gets even more successful to p**s off more people tbh.”

Another added on TikTok: “SOMETHING FOR THE LESBIANS YAYYY.”

Sabrina Carpenter, the ‘Please Please Please’ singer, is scheduled to return to London in July to wrap up her European tour. She will then head to Pennsylvania, followed by performances at Madison Square Garden in New York, Tennessee, Canada, and California. More ‘Juno’ positions might be expected along the way.
