Sabrina Carpenter’s Fortnite Skin Sparks Controversy Among Gamers

Some Fortnite players are expressing dissatisfaction with the introduction of the Sabrina Carpenter skin, claiming it has ‘ruined’ the game.

The singer and actress has been in the spotlight over the past year, particularly with her Sweet n’ Short tour, which has sparked mixed reactions.

Recently, Carpenter faced criticism from some who described her performances, especially her choreography, as ‘crass’ and ‘inappropriate,’ highlighting moments from her “Juno” performance that mimicked various sexual acts.

Despite the controversy, Carpenter’s growing popularity has led to her likeness being featured in the popular video game Fortnite, as a new skin was announced for players.

For those unfamiliar, this means players can use a digital version of Carpenter’s character to explore and battle within the game’s universe, facing off against characters like Lara Croft, Spider-Man, and Eminem.

The character is outfitted in glamorous attire, reflective of Carpenter’s style, with one option featuring a sequin corset and sparkly skirt, while another showcases a yellow dress.

Additionally, the game has introduced the ability for players to perform ‘dance emotes’ with the Carpenter character, allowing others to join in the dance without needing to own the emote themselves.

Epic Games revealed that Carpenter will be part of the Fortnite Festival Season Eight, where players can access ‘Juno’ and ‘Nonsense’ Jam Tracks.

Since the skin went live on April 8, some players argue that her presence has changed the gameplay dynamics, with many opting to dance rather than engage in combat.

Users on Twitter shared videos of the game showing numerous Carpenter avatars dancing, with comments like: “OMG how many Sabrina Carpenter skins are on this map in Fortnite lol. She really hit it.”

Others exclaimed, “IT’S A SABRINA TAKEOVER!!!” in response to the phenomenon.

One player noted that groups of Carpenter skins have teamed up, creating a new dynamic within the game.

“It’s not a joke,” they added.

Some amusing clips show players setting aside their weapons to dance with fellow fans upon meeting in the game.

One user attributed this to a ‘refusal to kill another Sabrina Carpenter fan in Fortnite,’ while some celebrate the sense of community it has fostered.

However, critics argue that the star’s image may not be suitable for young audiences, even in a digital form.

“I don’t think she’s a good influence for young kids,” said one critic, referring to her live performances as ‘sexualisation on stage.’

Nonetheless, Carpenter joins a long list of musicians who have appeared in the game, including names like Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Snoop Dogg, and Billie Eilish, along with others who may also be considered not entirely child-friendly, such as Travis Scott, The Weeknd, and Ice Spice.
