Savannah Guthrie Begs for Answers in Heartbreaking New Plea About Missing Mom and Says ‘We Cannot Move Forward’

Savannah Guthrie has issued another emotional public plea for information about her missing mother.

The “Today” show anchor, 54, took to Instagram on Sunday to share a childhood drawing her daughter had made, depicting an umbrella on a rainy day with the words “I know it might not seem like it, but I really need my mommy,” Savannah captioned the post that the image “says so much about how I feel.”

“The world goes on, things appear ‘normal’ — as we try to keep going and be strong, especially for our young kids — but it’s not and it never will be,” she wrote on the platform. She added that she and her family “ache” for Nancy Guthrie, 84, and “cry out for answers.”

Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Tucson, Arizona, residence on Feb. 1, nearly nine months ago. She was last seen at her home around 9:30 p.m. Local time on Jan. 31, according to reports. The FBI later released surveillance footage showing a masked individual outside her door in the early hours of Feb. 1.

The case took a disturbing turn when several ransom notes were received. The first arrived on Feb. 6, demanding millions of dollars and claiming Nancy remained alive but frightened. “She is safe but scared,” the note stated. “She will be held for ransom and once payment is received, she will be released unharmed. We will be holding her for a maximum of seven days.”

By mid-February, Savannah had begun to confront the possibility that her mother might not survive the ordeal. In a vulnerable social media post seeking prayers, she acknowledged the grim alternative. “We also know that she may be lost,” she said at that time. “She may already be gone. She may have already gone home to the Lord that she loves and is dancing in Heaven with her mom and her dad and with her beloved brother Pierce and with our daddy.”

Even as she expressed acceptance of a potential tragedy, Savannah stressed that certainty remained essential for the family’s healing. “And if this is what is to be, then we will accept it, but we need to know where she is,” she said in the February post. “We need her to come home.”
