Scarlett Johansson Shares Rare Insights on Her Brief Marriage to Ryan Reynolds

Twelve years after they went their separate ways, Scarlett Johansson offered a brief comment about her feelings for her former husband, Ryan Reynolds.

Let’s take a moment to revisit the year 2008. It was when films like Twilight and Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight captivated audiences, Britney Spears made her remarkable return to the spotlight, and Barack Obama was elected as the 44th President of the United States.

In the same year, Hollywood stars Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds exchanged vows in a private ceremony held in Vancouver, Canada.

They became engaged just four months before their wedding but ended their marriage two years later, finalizing their divorce in 2011.

After their split, both actors remarried: Ryan Reynolds wed Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively in 2012, while Scarlett Johansson married Romain Dauriac in 2014 and later Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost in 2020.

Although their divorce was widely known, both Marvel stars have rarely discussed their past relationship publicly.

This topic resurfaced during Johansson’s appearance on Gwyneth Paltrow’s The goop Podcast in 2023.

During a discussion about partners and marriage, Paltrow expressed surprise about Johansson’s past with the Deadpool actor.

“Oh that’s right, because I forgot that you were married to Ryan Reynolds!” Paltrow exclaimed, adding: “Goals!”

Johansson, with a laugh, pointed out the brief nature of their marriage.

“We weren’t married very long, but we were when I first met you, for Iron Man [2] or whatever,” she remarked.

Paltrow continued: “We love a good Ryan Reynolds in our house.”

Johansson agreed, saying: “He’s a good guy.”

When they announced their split, the former couple issued a joint statement: “After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage.

“We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated.”

One humorous takeaway from their divorce for Johansson is that she never witnessed her husband partake in peculiar antics, such as having mashed potatoes eaten off him—a scene left for Lively to enjoy.

After all, in the world of movies, such antics are part of the package with Reynolds, who is known for embracing outrageous comedic moments.
