This Is How Long Sex SHOULD Last, According To Science

We’ve all (probably) wondered how long sex SHOULD last for one reason or another, but now thanks to some clever scientists we can finally answer the burning question: What exactly is the mean intravaginal ejaculation latency time?

The study asked over 500 couples to use a stopwatch (really), starting the timer at penile penetration and stopping at ejaculation. Science is so romantic.

Apparently it’s too difficult to just ask people how long things last in the bedroom, as most couples don’t tend to keep an eye on the clock in the throes of passion. Hopefully.

Also, there could be some over-estimations as it’s socially desirable for men to say they last, you know, forever.

But thanks to the volunteers, researchers found that there was a huge variation in the couples’ results, from 33 seconds to 44 minutes.

The study also found that condoms didn’t affect the time, nor did being circumcised or nationality. Although, they do point out that in Turkish couples the sex was shorter (3.7 minutes) than in the Netherlands, Spain, UK and US.

And, despite what you may have heard, older couples actually tended to have shorter sex. You can take that up with your grandma if you want.

And, while we’re learning about all things coital, another study got to wondering why sex has to last any time at all — in terms of function, it could be very speedy indeed.

After testing artifical vaginas and penises, the team concluded that the shape of the male penis evolved to scoop out competing male’s semen from the vagina.

They said that the design increases the chances of the male passing on his own genes, and also explains why men can’t continue thrusting after the, er, deed is done.

Well, they say you learn something new every day.
