Fans of Selena Gomez were momentarily alarmed, thinking they had missed a significant event in her life due to a recent Instagram update.
People often follow their favorite celebrities on social media to stay updated with the important happenings in their lives.
This concern became a reality for Gomez’s followers, at least briefly, because of an Instagram post she made over the weekend.
While fans are accustomed to seeing her post affectionate pictures with her fiancé Benny Blanco, her Sunday (August 10) post caused a buzz due to the caption that accompanied it.
Who would have guessed that just four words could stir such confusion among her fans? A quick look reveals why they were concerned.
Gomez posted a photo of herself kissing Blanco’s cheek with the caption: “About last nights wedding.”
At first, many believed Gomez had a secret or private ceremony to marry Blanco, considering their engagement was announced last December.
However, if fans scrolled through the other photos she posted, they would understand that the wedding she was mentioning appeared to be that of rapper Lil Dicky, also known as David Burd, and his partner, Kristin Batalucco.
SZA was among those who initially thought they had missed Gomez’s wedding and commented: “This caption .. I panicked so crazy 😂 yay dave !!!”
On Twitter, a fan expressed: “This is why vague captions are dangerous.”
Another commented: “Don’t think Selena would marry in that fashion. Her wedding will be one for the history books.”
Someone else remarked: “Lmaoo [SZA] so real, cuz I was confused too until I started scrolling.”
The actual wedding between Gomez and Blanco is expected to occur in California this September.
So, it seems you’ll need to find a way to secure an invite to the wedding.
Gomez has previously opened up about her relationship with record producer Blanco and why it works so well.
In a February interview with Apple Music 1 last year, she shared: “Without getting into too much detail, I think it’s just really important to meet someone that respects you.
“And I think it’s really nice to also lean on someone who understands the world that I live in. I’d have to say overall, it’s the safest that I feel and it’s been really lovely. I’ve only grown through it, so it’s awesome.”
