Selma Blair takes a swim in Mexico one year after revealing she was truly in MS remission

Selma Blair was spotted soaking up the sun during a beach getaway in Los Cabos, Mexico, one year after revealing she is “truly” in remission from multiple sclerosis.

The 54-year-old actress was photographed taking a dip in the ocean in a patterned triangle bikini top and green bottoms, wearing goggles as she made her way through the water. She later sported a sheer polka-dot cover-up, which she eventually removed as she continued enjoying her time by the shore.

Blair appeared all smiles as she emerged from the surf and made her way toward the sand. She was seen navigating the choppy waves before settling back on the beach to relax.

The “Cruel Intentions” star has become increasingly open about her health journey since going public with her diagnosis. In August 2025, Blair said at The Daily Front Row’s 9th annual Fashion Los Angeles Awards that she was “truly in remission.”

“I am doing amazingly well,” Blair said at the event. “I’ve been feeling great for about a year. But I am finally well enough to really, genuinely… I always try to feel my best, but now that I actually have stamina and energy… going out isn’t so scary.”

Blair also appeared on the Today show in April 2026, where she addressed the reality of living with chronic illness even while in remission. “That’s just the truth of it. So I don’t want any of the people with chronic illness to feel like, ‘How does she do that?’ I’m like, ‘Oh no, no, that’s makeup and happiness. There’s fatigue,'” she explained. “But I am, really, really well. I am relapse-free. I’m happy.”

The actress has credited stem cell treatment with helping her achieve remission. In August 2021, during a virtual appearance at the Television Critics Association panel, she shared that the procedure had been transformative. “My prognosis is great. I’m in remission. Stem cell [treatment] put me in remission,” she said at the time. “It took about a year after stem cell [treatment] for the inflammation and lesions to really go down.”

Blair also revealed during that 2021 appearance that she had “never really liked life” until that point. “Because life’s so weird. I was so scared in life,” she explained. “To suddenly start to find an identity and a safety in [myself], to figure out boundaries, time management and energy… I’m having the time of my life.”

In the viral moment that first brought her diagnosis to public attention, Blair revealed on Instagram in October 2018 that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis that August, though she said she had been experiencing symptoms for years. “I am disabled,” Blair wrote in the caption, in part. “I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken [GPS].” The “Legally Blonde” actress shared that she struggled to get dressed and even play with her son, while reassuring fans that she was OK.

A year after her diagnosis, Blair posed in a bright red Eres bikini in a photo shared on Instagram. She also showed off her newly shaved head, which she debuted after announcing that she had been discharged from the hospital in July 2019 following treatment.

Blair shares her 14-year-old son, Arthur, with ex-boyfriend Jason Bleick. She celebrated her 54th birthday in June with a social media post showing her blowing out candles alongside her son and friends. “Another year. Love in all its forms. Cake, my Arthur, lovely people. Thank you,” she wrote in the caption.

The actress previously said that being in remission had allowed her to refocus on her goals and dreams, instead of living in survival mode. “It’s funny, I haven’t spent enough time having dreams. And now it’s like, what are my dreams?” She said. “I think maybe since the diagnosis…You’re just tired all the time. I spent so much of my life so tired from being unwell that I think I just was trying to get through the day. And now it’s like, wait, I realize I don’t know what my goals are.”

Blair is expected to continue her advocacy work for MS awareness and chronic illness representation in Hollywood.
