A Wisconsin man obsessed with serial killers has been charged with stalking after investigators discovered a locked basement filled with human remains and disturbing memorabilia.
Benjamin Larson, 47, of rural Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, was arrested following a search of his home on Aug. 14 that uncovered skeletal remains in a glass casket, multiple human skulls, and items allegedly linked to infamous murderers, according to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and court documents.
The investigation began when an unidentified ex-girlfriend reported to police last month that Larson had been stalking her since June 2013. She told authorities she had initially agreed to let him make a “body cast” of her at his Madison home, after which they dated briefly, meeting only “a handful of times” over two months before she ended the relationship.
The breakup came after Larson called her claiming he was “suicidal with a gun to his head,” according to court documents. Terrified, the woman moved to Canada without sharing her address, telling authorities she “just wanted to disappear.” Despite her efforts to vanish, Larson bombarded her with disturbing emails and even sent letters to her mother.
In a 2015 email revealed in court documents, Larson disclosed he had tattooed her initials on himself to ensure she could “never go away.”
“I simply don’t let go, and I don’t forget. I still retain every single word you wrote to me,” he wrote in the correspondence. “Everything you gave to me.”
The search of Larson’s basement exposed the full extent of his obsessions. Officers discovered 10 binders devoted to Edward Gein, the notorious “Butcher of Plainfield,” including items allegedly taken from the serial killer’s home and grave. They also found various types of poison and bullets matching the type used by the Zodiac Killer.
Among the most chilling items was “a sign that indicated a piece of John Wayne Gacy’s brain in a nearby jar,” according to court documents.
The basement contained a locked bedroom featuring “a painting of a naked female consistent with [the stalked woman’s] appearance” hung over a “large lifelike” silicone sex doll on a bed. Notes addressed to the accuser were also found in the room.
On his bedroom shelves, investigators found “5 human skulls and one partial skull,” alongside numerous framed images of nude women. A “human jawbone” sat on his dresser.
Investigators are collaborating with local anthropologists to determine whether the remains are authentic. Many are assumed to date back to the ancient Native American period, according to reports.
A black, 25-page portfolio contained handwritten notes to and about his accuser. In one passage, Larson seethed, “I am furious at the thought of her with him, and that they have a child … That he experiences her wonderfully erotic mind and I sit in my basement corner and rot and seethe.”
He appeared fixated on the intimate details of her new relationship, noting that her partner “gets to hold her and kiss her… that he gives that wonderful sexuality to him.”
Larson described surveilling his former lover while dressed “all black, with black gloves and a black mask,” watching from his car as he crept “around in the dark.”
The stalking continued for years. As recently as December 2025, Larson sent the woman a card that read “Season’s Creeping.”
Larson faces up to 42 months in prison if convicted of stalking. He is set to appear in court on Sept. 11.
