Shakira’s recent hospitalization right before her scheduled concert in Peru has left fans concerned, with updates on her recovery and potential rescheduling of the event.
On Saturday, February 15, Shakira landed in Lima, Peru’s capital, to perform for the first time in nearly ten years at Estadio Nacional, scheduled for the next night.
However, on February 16, the well-known 48-year-old pop star unfortunately had to call off her performance. She addressed the situation on her social media, explaining her hospitalization.
Shakira posted a message on her Instagram story, informing her followers about her condition.
She stated: “I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the emergency room for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized. The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening.
“I am very sad that I will not be able to take the stage today. I’ve been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans here in Peru.
“I hope to be released and well tomorrow so I’m able to perform. My team and promoters are already working on a new date to communicate to you. Thank you all for your understanding. Shak.”
Fans have been quick to react online, offering their support and best wishes for her recovery.
One commenter said: [Translation] “Shakira bella, the news says you’re in the clinic, may God take care of you and heal you of any illness so you’re always fine, don’t get sick, I’ll be praying for you.”
Another fan shared: “Shakira recover soon, take care of yourself my friend, we understand the cancellation of your conversion. The most important thing is your health. To pray for you. Hug,”
A third fan insisted: “They have to reschedule yes or yes! They can’t cancel us dates in Lima.”
In a subsequent story on Instagram, Shakira expressed gratitude: “Thank you all for your loving messages. You give me so much strength! I love you with all my heart.”
As of now, Shakira is scheduled to perform again in Lima on February 17, contingent on her doctor’s approval.
The tour originally began in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on February 11.
Following her Rio performance, Shakira expressed excitement on Instagram with photos and this message: “Rio! I couldn’t have asked for a better crowd to kick off the tour! Thank you for all your love, warmth, and energy on an unforgettable night! São Paulo, are you ready?”
