Shannen Doherty has recently made a significant accusation against her former spouse amid her ongoing struggle with stage four cancer. The journey began in 2015 when the “Beverly Hills” actress was first diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately, after undergoing treatment, she announced in 2017 that she was in remission. However, her battle took a harsh turn when, in 2020, she disclosed that her cancer had not only returned but had also metastasized to her brain and bones.
In addition to her health challenges, Doherty is currently engaged in a legal battle to obtain spousal support from her estranged husband, Kurt Iswarienko, as her monthly earnings dwindle. According to a report by People, there has been a delay in obtaining the necessary financial details from Iswarienko regarding his archival work, a move Doherty considers to be intentional to stall the divorce proceedings.
“It is simply not right that Kurt be permitted to prolong our divorce in hopes that I die before he is required to pay me while he continues to live his life and shirk his responsibilities to his dying wife of more than 11 years,” Doherty stated in official court documents.
Responding to these allegations, Iswarienko’s lawyer, Katherine Heersema, argued, “Kurt is not ‘simply wait[ing] for Shannen to die.’ He wants the best for Shannen and he wants both of them to be able to put this case behind them and move forward.”
Despite the ongoing legal disputes, Doherty has rejected any settlements that do not adequately address the concerns regarding Iswarienko’s creative works during their marriage and his capacity to earn.
Doherty remarked, “As a result of my recurrent health issues, I have been largely unable to work and have no future employment prospects. Today, virtually all of the income I earn is residual income from work I performed prior to marriage.”
Further complicating matters, Doherty accused Iswarienko in the court documents of prioritizing his lifestyle over her needs. “While I have been unable to work, incurring exorbitant medical expenses not covered by insurance to undergo experimental treatments in hopes of prolonging my life, Kurt has been utilizing the airplane, spending thousands of dollars at medical spas, jewelry stores, Gucci, and on flights for his ‘agent,’ while simultaneously claiming that he has insufficient funds with which to support me,” she explained.
