Sia issues blunt four-word statement after being ordered to pay ex $42,500 per month in child support

Sia has addressed the public after finalizing a child support agreement with her former husband.

The singer behind “Cheap Thrills” married Daniel Bernad in December 2022, and the pair separated in March 2025 after two years together.

When she filed for divorce in March last year, it was reported the couple had welcomed a child 11 months earlier. Their son, Somersault Wonder Bernad, is now two. Sia listed ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for the split.

In the wake of their breakup, Sia, 50, agreed to pay $42,500 each month in child support and posted a brief message on X (formerly Twitter).

“Good dads get jobs,” she wrote to her 3.2 million followers.

Bernad previously worked as a radiation oncologist, E! News reports.

After attention grew around the settlement, Sia expanded on her earlier comment with a longer post.

“I’m a sober working mom trying to buy peace,” she wrote on April 7. “I have primary custody of our son and since I am the only parent earning income I still have to pay California’s incredibly high child support.”

She added: “This has been a horrific year but it taught me how to navigate incredibly difficult situations, prioritize my family and not absorb other people’s negativity.”

Court documents cited by the outlet also state that, beyond monthly child support, Sia is responsible for covering her son’s private school tuition, health insurance, and extracurricular costs.

She has also agreed to take out a $5 million life insurance policy, naming Somersault as the beneficiary should she die before he becomes an adult.

The two will share legal custody while following a set parenting plan for physical custody. Under the agreement, major holidays will be divided, with Sia having their son on Mother’s Day, Easter, and Christmas.

Bernad is scheduled to spend Father’s Day, Halloween, Passover, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and portions of Hanukkah with their child.

Sia is also a mother to three children, including two sons she adopted in 2019 when they were teenagers preparing to age out of the foster care system. She has previously shared that she is a grandmother as well, saying one of her older sons has two children.

One of her adopted sons is known publicly as Che, while the other has chosen to remain private.

The artist previously told InStyle she ‘wanted to be a mom my whole entire life’.
