Significant plot gap in Bridgerton’s fourth season sparks questions about main storyline

Warning: this article contains spoilers for season four, part one, of Bridgerton

Fans of the popular series Bridgerton have been thoroughly enjoying the fourth season and are eagerly anticipating the release of the second part on Netflix, set for February 26.

This season stars Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha as the central characters, Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek, respectively. It currently holds an impressive 83 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Although the initial reception has been positive, some viewers have pointed out a few flaws in the first four episodes.

In the latest season, Sophie and Benedict first encounter one another at a masquerade ball organized by Lady Bridgerton.

Unlike the other guests, Sophie is not an official part of society. She works as a maid for her unkind stepmother and sneaks into the event in secret.

She strikes up a conversation with Benedict, and they quickly form a connection. However, Sophie has to leave suddenly before the party concludes, leaving behind a glove that Benedict subsequently uses to try and find her.

Does this remind you of a well-known fairytale?

As a result of her attendance at the ball, Sophie is thrown out by her stepmother. She hastily gathers her things, including the remaining glove.

She finds another job and eventually crosses paths with Benedict once more. He intervenes to protect her friend from being harassed by another guest, leading to Sophie and Benedict fleeing the scene after a confrontation.

In their hasty departure, Sophie appears to have forgotten all her belongings, including the crucial glove.

Highlighting this oversight, one viewer commented on Instagram: “She left her bags behind, which included her glove. That’s what I couldn’t stop thinking about.”

Another viewer noted, “There have been a lot of editing errors… leaving the coin purse, leaving behind her bag with the glove, the dirty dress etc.”

The issue has also been discussed on TikTok, where someone shared a clip of the scene showing Sophie taking her belongings when she initially left her stepmother’s residence.

“That glove is still at the Cavender‘s house,” one person remarked, adding, “Nowhere did we see her bring her bag with her!”

There might be a way to resolve this oversight.

Benedict keeps his promise by securing jobs for both Sophie and her friend Hazel at Bridgerton House after they lose their previous employment.

Sophie escapes with Benedict, while Hazel later arrives at Bridgerton House. Could Hazel have brought along the suitcase Sophie left behind?
