Simone Biles’ Met Gala dress leaves fans in disbelief

Simone Biles surprised many fans with her choice of attire at the Met Gala this year.

The renowned American gymnast made a bold fashion statement at the event, which is known for showcasing extravagant and glamorous styles while raising funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.

This year’s gala theme, inspired by ‘Black dandyism,’ aligns with the Costume Institute’s exhibition ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,’ running from May 10 to October 26. The exhibition explores the role of clothing in shaping Black identities within the Atlantic diaspora, as reported by Vogue, marking a focus on menswear for the first time since 2003’s ‘Men in Skirts.’

Accompanied by her husband, NFL star Jonathan Owens, Biles wore a striking short blue dress, accessorized with a small blue purse and matching heels. The ensemble featured a long trail and a studded collar.

However, numerous social media users expressed confusion over the 28-year-old’s outfit.

Some critics on Twitter questioned the dress’s design: “Are her bottoms or the rest of the dress missing? It’s cute but lacking something,” one person commented. “Who is dressing her, someone who doesn’t like her,” another remarked.

Others were less than impressed as well. “Girl what is that,” a fan questioned, and another declared, “I don’t like her dress!!” Yet another chimed in, “Stick to gymnastics girl coz ILY BUT WHAT IS THIS.”

Despite the critiques, many praised Biles for her unique interpretation of the theme, noting that her tailored blue outfit stood out amidst a sea of black ensembles.

“MOTHERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I LOVE HER,” an enthusiastic fan exclaimed. Another added, “GAG SHES SERVING.” A third person even went as far as to label Biles’ look as ‘one of the best in style.’

Simone Biles wasn’t the only celebrity to spark debate at the event. Sydney Sweeney’s choice of attire also left fans divided, with some deeming it ‘safe.’
