Singer Khalid Reveals He Was ‘Outed’ and Had to Publicly Acknowledge Being Gay

On Friday, Khalid took to social media to discuss his sexuality after being outed by someone claiming to be a former partner.

The singer Khalid expressed that he isn’t particularly concerned about people knowing his sexual orientation, emphasizing that he hasn’t been concealing it.

In a series of tweets on November 22, Khalid highlighted that it isn’t anyone else’s business, which is a fair point.

Initially, Khalid did not intend to address the issue until fellow musician Hugo Almonte allegedly revealed Khalid’s sexuality in his own social media post.

Almonte mentioned having intimate encounters with artists and claimed that ‘one of your favorite gay R&B singers’ offered him drugs and falsely accused him of breaking into his house.

He also criticized current openly gay artists in a follow-up post, stating: “Gay artists that are out right now are sh**** as f***.”

Almonte then posted a picture of himself with Khalid.

While Khalid has not directly commented on Almonte’s statements, he did confirm his sexuality on his social media page.

Accompanying an LGBTQ+ pride flag emoji, Khalid wrote: “There yall go. Next topic please lol.”

In response to a social media user, he added: “I am [gay] and that’s okay.”

Khalid expressed that he was unfazed by the swift online discussion regarding his sexuality.

He stated: “I got outted and the world still continues to turn. Let’s get this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality, it ain’t nobody’s business! But I am okay with me love yall.

“I wasn’t hiding anything! It’s just not any of your business.”

The singer also acknowledged a fan who came to his defense.

The fan cited his 2022 song “Satellite” as an LGBTQ anthem and noted: “Then there was the LGBTQ anthem he gave us in 2022 but ya’ll kinda slept. Either way. hate that Khalid was forced out but he wasn’t ‘hiding’ it. He just didn’t need to TELL nobody.”

Khalid responded with gratitude and restated that he wasn’t withholding anything.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Almonte explained the motivation behind his post, claiming it was to demonstrate how Khalid purportedly tried to silence him after their relationship ended, though he did not specifically name Khalid.

Almonte added: “It’s crazy that these people said I was chasing clout, when I was holding onto this for five years, and I finally had enough.”
