Singer Lola Young Speaks Out After Unexpected On-Stage Collapse During Live Performance

Singer Lola Young recently experienced a distressing incident, collapsing during a live performance in New York.

At just 24 years old, the British artist, who gained recognition with her track ‘Messy’ last year, was performing at the All Things Go NYC Music Festival on September 27 when the situation unfolded dramatically.

In video captured by fans, Young can be seen stopping her performance of ‘Conceited,’ signaling to her team off-stage before she suddenly falls backward. Her band members quickly rushed to assist her.

After being helped off-stage, fellow musician Remi Wolf took over, addressing the audience and describing the incident as “really f***ing scary” while reassuring everyone, “My friend Lola is backstage, and she is okay.”

Later, Young took to Instagram Stories to reassure her supporters, stating, “Hi, for anyone who saw my set at All Things Go today, I am doing okay now. Thank you for all of your support. Lola xxx.”

The incident occurred a day after Young had already canceled another performance. On September 26, her manager, Nick Shymansky, announced that she would not be appearing at Audacy’s We Can Survive concert in New Jersey due to concerns for her health.

Shymansky explained, “Unfortunately due to a sensitive matter I have advised Lola Young to pull out.”

“Lola is very open about her mental health, and there are occasions when my team and I must take protective measures to ensure her safety. She is an incredible person and takes her fans, career, and performances seriously. I can only send huge apologies for the inconvenience caused.”

Young later addressed the situation on Instagram, expressing her disappointment at having to cancel the concert.

“I’m sorry to confirm that I won’t be playing all things go in DC today,” she wrote.

“I love this job, and I never take my commitments and audience for granted, so I’m sorry to those who will be disappointed by this. I hope you’ll all give me another chance in the future.

“Thank you to all those who listen and care. To all the people that love to be mean online, please give me a day off. Lola.”

Before going on stage in New York, Young acknowledged that she hadn’t been in the best mental space, telling the audience, “I wanted to perform and I didn’t want to wallow in my sadness. Sometimes life can throw you lemons and you’ve just got to motherf***ing make lemonade.”

Young has been candid in the past about her battle with schizoaffective disorder, diagnosed at the age of 17. She described the experience to The Telegraph as akin to ‘a bottle overflowing,’ noting that while she can sometimes predict episodes, they occasionally appear unexpectedly.

Her next performance is scheduled for October 6 in Manchester, England.
