Sir Anthony Hopkins Lands Major Record Deal for His Debut Original Album

Sir Anthony Hopkins is embarking on a new creative chapter at 88, having signed a major record deal for a full-length classical album.

Best known for his unforgettable screen performances, including his acclaimed work in The Silence of the Lambs, the Oscar-winning actor is now turning the spotlight toward a far more personal pursuit: the music he has been writing for most of his life.

Hopkins has teamed up with Decca and the Philharmonia Orchestra to record and release a collection of his original compositions.

Titled Life Is a Dream, the album is due out on Aug. 21 and brings together music he has written across roughly 60 years.

The project has also been introduced with a debut single, Bracken Road, which draws on Hopkins’s childhood memories of south Wales.

Although audiences around the world know him primarily as a film legend, music came first for Hopkins. He began playing piano and composing as a child in Wales, years before acting became his profession.

The new record will showcase orchestral works written by Hopkins and performed on a full symphonic scale, giving public life to music that has largely remained private until now.

For Hopkins, the release represents the realization of a long-held ambition.

“Music was my first desire, my first wish. I’ve been composing music all my life,” the Hannibal actor said in a statement, reports The Guardian.

He added of his album, “Some of these pieces have lived with me for decades and I still find myself returning to them. My whole life is a dream. Signing with Decca [Classics] is the honor of a lifetime.”

This is not the first time Hopkins has drawn attention for his musical side. In recent years, he has delighted followers on TikTok and Instagram with warm, informal clips of himself at the piano or dancing around his home, often with his tabby cat, Niblo, nearby.

The news of the album has prompted widespread praise online, with many fans applauding the actor for continuing to create and evolve later in life.

“Anthony Hopkins releasing a classical album at 88 is the most beautiful thing I’ve heard all week,” one fan wrote online.

Another added: “The man is a true renaissance artist. It is so deeply inspiring to see someone never stop creating.”

With this release, Hopkins is showing that artistic ambition does not fade with age, and that it is never too late to share a passion with the world.
