SNL star involved in ‘mean and unfunny’ sketch mocking Aimee Lou Wood’s teeth finally breaks silence

The Saturday Night Live comedian who faced criticism for her portrayal of Aimee Lou Wood in a sketch has addressed the situation.

Recently, SNL found itself embroiled in controversy after Sarah Sherman imitated The White Lotus actress’s dental features.

In response, Wood criticized the show for what she called a ‘mean and unfunny’ sketch. As a gesture of apology, Sherman sent Wood a bouquet, which the Sex Education star shared on her Instagram Story.

“Thank you for the beautiful flowers @sarahsquirm,” Wood wrote, tagging Sherman’s account, indicating that the two may have reconciled.

During her debut at the Met Gala earlier this month, Wood was asked again about the SNL sketch and the events that followed.

“It all got very out of control,” she commented. “My whole thinking was I could either say something because I saw it and people were angry about it… and have it be said, and I won’t spiral inwardly, and feel terrible about myself.”

Sherman had remained silent on the matter until now.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Sherman expressed her thoughts: “I was excited to play her because she’s so iconic, her character is so iconic, and I f**king obviously never meant to hurt anyone’s feelings.”

She continued, “Never in a million years did I get into comedy to make anyone upset. I feel terrible that anyone would feel bad.”

The interviewer questioned Sherman about her experience on SNL and whether she has become more conscious of people’s feelings given her roles as real-life figures.

SNL RESPONDS AFTER AIMEE LOU WOOD CALLS OUT ‘UNFUNNY’ SKIT

“Totally,” Sherman acknowledged. “The show is in constant dialogue with culture as it’s happening, and it happens really fast. You have to be vigilant, you know what I mean? There are a lot of things out of your control.”

She elaborated, “You’re playing a lot of different parts, you’re doing a lot of different roles that you’re not in control of.”

“A lot of the process of the show has been, to me – how am I answering this? Staying vigilant but also being a part of the show – that is your job.”

Wood also commented on the images that circulated online, showing her in tears while in London with a friend, which many speculated were related to the SNL sketch.

“I wasn’t crying about the SNL skit,” the 31-year-old clarified. “I was crying about something completely unrelated, but it all got quite out of control.”
