A teenage boy has been arrested in connection with the alleged murders of his family members during a shooting at their residence on October 21.
The suspect, whose identity has yet to be released by authorities, is suspected of fatally shooting his father, a software engineer, along with his mother and four siblings at their $2 million property in Washington, sources indicate.
According to a Mail Online report, only one sister managed to survive, albeit injured from the incident.
The injured girl, aged 11, is currently reported to be in a ‘satisfactory condition’ at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, as stated by hospital spokesperson Susan Gregg.
Police have refrained from disclosing the names or ages of the victims apart from the parents. They confirmed that they found the bodies of 42-year-old Mark Humiston and his wife, Sarah.
The tragic event occurred at the mansion in Fall City near Lake Alice, a region known for its high-value homes, located around 30 miles east of Seattle.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Mark Humiston, originally from Texas, served as an Associate Principal at Hargis Engineers in Seattle for nearly two decades.
Mile Mellis, spokesperson for the King County Sheriff’s Office, described the shooting as a clear case of ‘domestic violence involving a young man and firearms.’
Mellis also mentioned that the young man was taken into custody without significant confrontation.
Mellis commented: “It’s very early stages of this investigation, but it’s going to affect many people.
“I can say that it’s going to be really a tragic event for the community, for anybody who has any connection out here.”
Regarding Fall City’s general safety and crime rates, he noted: “[It is a] pretty nice area, low crime rate in general.’
“This is a place where people come to raise their families.”
Neighbors expressed to local media their shock over the incident.
One neighbor told KOMO News: “They were the sweetest children, so polite. [They were] homeschooled and it just unfathomable what just happened.”
Another neighbor mentioned that the home, worth $2 million, was occupied by the couple and their five children. Police have stated their belief that all individuals involved in the shooting are related.
The 15-year-old’s defense attorney, in court on Tuesday, highlighted that his client has no prior criminal record and requested that his identity remain confidential until a charging decision is reached, a request which the judge approved.
