A solo female traveler has shared the one destination she vows never to revisit.
Christina Ford, 63, took to TikTok to identify the place she would not return to, following an unexpected experience upon leaving her hotel.
“Do not do it,” she cautioned on TikTok.
Christina, known as @insearchofmrdarcy, recounted her surprise at various issues during her holiday. “I was by myself and I went to have a drink. It was about 5.30, I was planning to watch the sunset,” she said.
“The first place I went to was about a third full with lots of empty seats. I mentioned I was just here for a drink before meeting some friends for dinner.”
“They said it was €100 minimum. I asked, ‘so you’re expecting one person to spend €100 by themselves on drinks?’
“They said ‘sorry, that’s just the rules.'”
Christina then moved to another place, which was almost empty except for one couple.
They inquired if she had a reservation and if she was alone. She explained she was seeking a table for one and intended to stay for about half an hour.
Ultimately, they informed her that a reservation was required, prompting her to find another restaurant.
“The fourth place I went to, they took me,” she noted, highlighting that Mykonos is not ideal for solo travelers.
“Take it off your list, it’s not worth it.”
Mykonos had other issues for Christina.
“This is how crazy it’s gotten,” she remarked.
While checking out of her hotel, she was surprised when staff asked if she wanted to leave a tip.
“I get my hotel bill, I’m checking out… hotel costs, taxes on top of that, room service I’ve had by the pool, [the] tip I’ve left on those.”
“I’m putting down my credit card but they leave a little spot and they’re waiting for me… sorry, you need me to leave a tip on top of tips I’ve already left, on top of the room tax on top of the room?”
“This culture is getting crazy… Has anyone ever been asked to leave a tip on your room cost?”
“In all my years of travel, I had never seen anything like this.”
TikTok viewers were split. Some recommended Christina try another island, while others shared similar experiences in different parts of Europe.
