Son Jack Reveals Doctors Warned Ozzy Osbourne Not to Perform Final Concert 17 Days Before His Death

Jack Osbourne has revealed that doctors warned his father Ozzy Osbourne not to perform at his farewell concert just over two weeks before the rock legend’s death.

The 39-year-old opened up about the final days during an appearance on “Great Company with Jamie Laing,” explaining that physicians urged the Black Sabbath frontman, 76, to skip the July 5 show in Birmingham, England due to serious health risks. Jack recalled that medical professionals flagged multiple conditions, including heart complications and artery issues, alongside what he described as “a ton of medical kind of mishaps leading up to the show.”

“They basically were just saying like you’ve got so many things going on,” Jack explained. “We recommend you don’t do this because the energy expenditure.”

The doctors’ concerns centered on Ozzy’s physical capacity to endure the performance. “They were just like energetically, this is going to … this is not good. This is not good. Like you don’t have it in you,” Jack recalled. His father’s response was blunt and final: “I’m doing it.”

Despite the warnings, Ozzy took the stage at Villa Park for the “Back to the Beginning” farewell concert, a 10-hour event hosted by Jason Momoa that also featured Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Jack Black, Steven Tyler and others. The rocker performed seated on a black throne adorned with skulls and topped with a black bat, running through hits including “Crazy Train” and “Mama I’m Coming Home.”

“It’s so good to be on this stage… You have no idea how I feel,” Ozzy told the crowd, according to Planet Rock Radio. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Seventeen days later, on July 22, Ozzy died. His death certificate listed cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease.

Jack said he harbors no anger about his father’s choice to perform against medical advice. “But he wanted his journey. And so I can’t … I’m not angry at that,” he explained. “I think everyone wants to at least have some say in how they go,” he continued. “Obviously, deeply heartbroken that he’s gone but also he went the way he wanted to.”

“He said, ‘Wake up’ and [I said] ‘I’m already bloody awake, you’ve woken me up,'” Sharon remembered. “And he said, ‘Kiss me.’ And then he said, ‘Hug me tight.'”

Those were the last words between the couple, who had been married for 43 years. Sharon explained that Ozzy had followed his usual early-morning routine, going downstairs to exercise for 20 minutes before he passed away.

Sharon recalled hearing screaming inside their home and rushing downstairs to find others attempting to revive him. “They were trying to resuscitate him and I’m like ‘Don’t. Leave him. Leave him. You can’t. He’s gone.’ I knew instantly he’s gone,” she said. “And they tried and tried and then they took him by helicopter to the hospital and they tried and it’s like, ‘He’s gone. Just leave him.'”

We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
