Specialist highlights ‘key evidence’ in Nancy Guthrie abduction as rooftop surveillance

A significant development in the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie is the discovery of a camera on the roof of her home. This key piece of evidence emerged days after she went missing.

Authorities have not been able to publicly name any suspects since Guthrie vanished sometime between the night of January 31 and February 1. However, detectives were observed last week retrieving an unidentified camera from her home’s roof.

According to CNN, neighbor Laura Coates informed a detective that Guthrie’s roof appeared freshly recoated and unusually clean, prompting further investigation which led to the discovery of the camera.

Dan Donovan, a criminal expert, shared with Us Weekly that this camera is likely to be a crucial piece of evidence in the case, which is currently being investigated as a kidnapping or abduction. Donovan stated, “It’s potentially one of the most important clues,” noting the significance of the camera in understanding the situation.

Donovan suggested that the camera, likely installed by someone other than the 84-year-old Guthrie, indicates a premeditated action. “A camera on the roof suggests surveillance, planning and situational awareness. That’s not the behavior of someone improvising,” he explained. This could imply monitoring entry points, police response times, or observing the home’s activity.

This calculated approach is supported by the FBI’s recent update on their search for the missing woman.

On February 10, FBI director Kash Patel released doorbell footage from Nancy’s residence, presenting the first images of a potential suspect. The footage shows a masked and possibly armed person at her Tucson, Arizona home on the morning she disappeared.

This individual is seen tampering with Nancy’s doorbell camera, complicating the recovery of any footage from it.

In an update, Patel stated: “Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to the removal of recording devices. The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems.”

“Working with our partners – as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”

Meanwhile, Nancy’s family continues to appeal for her safe return. On Monday, as a suspected ransom deadline passed, Savannah expressed their deep concern, stating they are ‘at an hour of desperation.’

A ransom note, not yet verified, demanded $6 million in untraceable bitcoin for Nancy’s return.

The FBI has called for anyone with information to contact them at 1-800-CALL-FBI, as well as the Pima County Sheriff’s Office at 520-351-4900. A reward of $50,000 is offered for information leading to Nancy’s safe return or a conviction.
