Specialist shares effects on her body from consuming olive oil daily for a week

A dietician explored a unique food trend to observe its potential effects.

The world of dieting and health trends seems almost endless, with numerous new ideas continually emerging.

While it’s true that our diet significantly influences our health and wellbeing, the key is often about maintaining a balanced intake of vegetables, engaging in regular exercise, and occasionally indulging in treats.

However, you’re likely interested in more unconventional ideas, ones that make bold claims about transformative impacts on your life.

Fortunately, award-winning registered dietician Lauren Manaker embarked on such an experiment to investigate its potential effects.

The experiment involved taking a shot of olive oil each day for a week, with claims that it could enhance hair, skin, and overall health.

The internet frequently praises the ‘Mediterranean diet’ for its health advantages, with olive oil often being celebrated as the key component.

Whether used for drizzling or frying, olive oil has long been regarded as a superfood, often compared favorably to vegetable oils or butter.

However, this experiment focused on consuming a direct shot of olive oil.

“I poured my first shot, complete with an actual shot glass, ready to embrace the peppery, liquid gold experience everyone raves about,” wrote Lauren. “I brought the glass to my lips, took a deep breath, and… nope.”

Understandably, consuming a shot of olive oil isn’t appealing to everyone.

Lauren decided to adapt her approach by drizzling it over salads, adding it to roasted vegetables post-cooking, and even incorporating it into coffee.

One might wonder if incorporating olive oil into a vodka martini through fat-washing could meet the ‘shot’ criteria.

So, what were the results after consuming the equivalent of a shot of olive oil daily for a week?

Apparently, not much changed.

“Over the seven days, I didn’t notice any remarkable changes in my body,” she wrote. “I didn’t wake up easier in the mornings, and my focus at work was pretty much unchanged. My skin didn’t suddenly become luminous, nor did my hair take on any extra shine.”
