With weight loss injections becoming increasingly available, experts have shared insights on the potential effects during the initial four weeks of using these medications.
Recently, Novo Nordisk announced a significant price reduction for the weight loss medication Wegovy and the diabetes drug Ozempic. Consumers purchasing these drugs from the manufacturer, telehealth partners, or retail pharmacies can now obtain Wegovy and Ozempic for $349 monthly, down from $499.
This price reduction enables more individuals to afford Wegovy, which is intended for adults and children aged 12 and older with obesity, and for overweight adults to lose and maintain weight loss.
To provide a detailed understanding of the impact of weight-loss injections, digital healthcare provider ZAVA has outlined a week-by-week breakdown of changes one might experience.

According to ZAVA, the initial days after starting weight-loss medications focus on the body’s adaptation period.
Experts noted: “These treatments mimic the naturally occurring GLP-1 hormone, affecting appetite and digestion, which can initially cause side effects such as nausea and digestive changes.”
Symptoms typically show up in the first days as the body adjusts, and experts recommend consuming smaller, low-fat meals while avoiding greasy or rich foods to manage these changes.
“Staying hydrated and resting are also important during this period,” ZAVA adds. “While discomfort may occur, it’s crucial to take your medication as prescribed and pay attention to your body’s signals.”

Unfortunately, side effects might not completely vanish after the first week, but issues like nausea and headaches often decrease as treatment progresses.
If side effects persist, a doctor may adjust the dosage or recommend a more gradual increase in medication.
To alleviate symptoms, ZAVA suggests maintaining hydration and getting adequate rest.
By day 21, most patients experience reduced side effects and positive changes such as a decreased appetite and feeling fuller sooner during meals.
However, ZAVA emphasizes the importance of a balanced diet and regular exercise to support weight loss and overall wellness.

By week four, many patients start noticing early changes in weight and energy levels.
“Weight loss injections have also been shown to improve markers like blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar control, important benefits for long-term health,” ZAVA explains.
Dr. Babak Ashrafi from ZAVA has highlighted the promise of weight loss injections such as Mounjaro and Wegovy as significant advancements in obesity treatment.
He mentioned that success with these medications requires integrating lifestyle changes alongside their use.
He stated: “These medications don’t just help reduce weight, they tackle one of the root causes by regulating appetite, which can be life-changing for people who’ve struggled with traditional weight loss methods. Clinical evidence shows that they can lead to significant, sustained weight loss and improvements in overall health, including blood pressure and cholesterol.”
“But they’re not a magic fix. Long-term success comes from combining these treatments with healthy eating, regular physical activity, and the right support. That’s why it’s so important to use these injections under the guidance of a healthcare professional, who can monitor your progress and make sure they’re safe and suitable for your individual needs.”
