Spooky or Steamy? Actress Reveals Surprising Similarities Between Horror Films and Adult Entertainment
Caitlin Stasey, an Australian actress famous for her roles in Neighbours and Nickelodeon’s The Sleepover Club, recently shared some startling insights about the entertainment industry. Stasey, who delved into adult entertainment after a successful career in mainstream media, highlighted the unexpected parallels between the two worlds.
In 2022, Stasey appeared in the horror movie Smile, directed by Parker Finn. The film, which was a significant box office success, featured Stasey in a chilling role that contributed to its eerie atmosphere.
Stasey’s character, graduate student Laura Weaver, experiences a terrifying encounter with an invisible menace, leading to a horrifying and memorable scene where her character meets a gruesome end.
Before her role in Smile, Stasey took a bold step by entering the adult film industry, a move she announced in early 2021. She has since directed several films for Afterglow, a company known for its ethical approach to adult entertainment, blending high-quality content with sexual wellness.
In a revealing conversation on the I’ve Got News For You podcast, Stasey discussed her experiences across both industries. She shared with Andrew Bucklow, the host, that the filming processes are quite similar, regardless of the content.
“Honestly, the content is pretty intense but it runs just like any other film set,” she explained, noting the professionalism and inclusiveness on sets. “The sets tend to be really inclusive. There’s a lot of women.
“In fact, I think there are more female directors in pornography than there are in mainstream film and television,” she added, shedding light on the gender dynamics within the industry.
Stasey also touched on the challenges and responsibilities of transitioning from acting to directing, acknowledging the significant shift in responsibilities.
“So, the sets that I was a part of or that I was a leader of were always really warm and kind and patient.” She described the experience as transformative, requiring a balance of creative control and leadership.
Stasey also elaborated on one of her directorial projects, Eau de P***y, an adult film inspired by the overtly sexual nature of perfume advertisements. The film features a provocative narrative that starts with a seemingly innocent scenario and evolves into an intense exploration of sexuality.
“It’s as if they’re written by an algorithm on another planet,” Stasey commented on traditional perfume ads. “But they’re always so sexy and it always feels like sex is about to happen – everyone’s sniffing each other’s necks and licking each other’s wrists.
“So I kind of came up with the concept of a perfume commercial that then becomes a lesbian threesome.”
Despite her new focus on directing, Stasey continues to act, adding more credits to her already impressive resume, including roles in various television series that showcase her versatility and commitment to her craft.
From eerie thrillers to steamy adult films, Caitlin Stasey’s journey through the entertainment industry reveals a world of unexpected similarities and shared experiences across different genres.
