John Boyega has revealed he secretly married two years ago and is now expecting his first child.
The “Star Wars” actor, 34, confirmed both milestones in an interview published Oct. 4, after a reporter spotted the wedding ring on his hand. Boyega kept his wife’s identity private but described their ceremony as small and intimate, adding that the couple hopes to host a larger celebration later. “We both like the idea of celebrating something established, rather than celebrating the entry,” he explained.
“And by then, we’ll have to shut Nigeria down!,” the British actor, who is of Nigerian descent, joked in the interview.

The family news did not stop there. Boyega also disclosed that he and his wife are expecting a baby boy, and that he has already taken on a stepfather role to her young son. “My baby’s on the way,” he said. “We got a baby cooking,” He added, “So, you know, my life is completely, completely fulfilled in terms of family.”

The revelations mark a dramatic turn toward domestic life for an actor who has spent much of his public career navigating intense scrutiny. Boyega shot to global fame playing Finn in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy, becoming one of the most prominent Black actors in a major franchise. That visibility also made him a target for racist harassment from online trolls, which he addressed forcefully in an Instagram Live broadcast in 2020.

In 2022, Boyega publicly praised Disney for defending Moses Ingram, his “Obi-Wan Kenobi” co-star, after she faced similar racist abuse online. During an appearance on SiriusXM’s “Tell Me Everything With John Fugelsang,” he reflected on how the company’s response differed from his own experience years earlier. “It makes me feel like, ‘Okay, cool. I am not the elephant in the room.’ Because when I started, it wasn’t really a conversation you could bring up,” he said.

“You know how they went through it. It was kind of like, ‘Let’s just be silent,'” he continued. “It wasn’t a conversation you could bring up.”

Despite the contrast, Boyega insisted he harbored no resentment. “Sometimes you’re not the guy to get the blessing and sometimes you are Moses, you know, you lead the people to the mountain, but you see the destination,” he explained. “You don’t get to go in, you get others to go in. And that’s where you get your happiness from.”

The actor has several projects in development, with his next major role expected to be announced in the coming months.
