A well-loved drama series on Prime Video, which Stephen King once praised as “one of the best,” is set to receive a prequel.
With the approach of winter, it’s an excellent opportunity to dive into a new TV series. This crime drama, with its seven seasons, a spin-off, and now an upcoming prequel, has received a remarkable 97 percent rating, marking it as a must-watch. Stephen King’s endorsement further adds to its appeal.
The entire series is available for streaming on Prime Video and centers around an LAPD homicide detective who encounters more challenges than anticipated.
Titus Welliver portrays the detective who becomes embroiled in a complicated murder investigation, a tumultuous federal probe, and a potential city-wide threat.
The series, adapted from Michael Connelly’s best-selling novels, also features Jamie Hector, Amy Aquino, Madison Lintz, and Lance Reddick. It spanned 68 episodes from 2014 to 2021, making Welliver’s character the longest-running detective in a streaming series.
The series is Bosch, named after its central character, Harry Bosch.
Stephen King expressed his admiration for Bosch on X (formerly Twitter), stating there’s “nothing better” than watching it on Amazon Prime.
“The story is engrossing, the cast—led by Titus Welliver—is superb, and nobody is phoning it in. One of the best shows now on TV,” he remarked.
King is not alone in his praise; critics on Rotten Tomatoes have also lauded the show, giving it a 97 percent rating across all seven seasons. Descriptions include ‘gritty,’ ‘genuinely engaging,’ and ‘exceedingly bingeable.’
Following the conclusion of the original series, Bosch’s story continued in the spin-off, Bosch: Legacy, which concluded after three seasons in April.
The Bosch franchise is expanding again with a new streaming platform set to host its prequel.
The prequel, titled Bosch: Start of Watch, delves into the origin story of the main character. It stars Cameron Monaghan from Shameless as a young Bosch and Omari Hardwick from Star Trek as the experienced officer Eli Bridges.
This prequel promises plenty of drama as Bosch navigates a “high-profile heist and a web of criminal corruption,” testing his loyalty and influencing his future path.
Filming for Bosch: Start of Watch is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles in 2026, with its release on MGM+ to follow.
For now, both Bosch and Bosch: Start of Watch are available for streaming on Prime Video.
