Stevie Nicks’ fans are praising her as a ‘queen’ after coming across her concise eight-word response to Katy Perry when asked about her industry ‘rivals’.
At 76, Nicks hardly needs an introduction, yet if you’re not acquainted with the Arizona-born singer-songwriter, here’s a brief overview.
The ‘Gypsy’ singer is not only an eight-time Grammy Award nominee, but she is also the only woman to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice. Furthermore, she is a founding member of Fleetwood Mac, one of the best-selling bands worldwide.
Nicks recently performed her stirring protest song ‘The Lighthouse’ on Saturday Night Live. She has just concluded a two-year world tour and has since spoken with Rolling Stone about her celebrity friends like Taylor Swift and the upcoming Presidential Election.
In addition to discussing emerging talents such as Chappell Roan and whether she’s contemplated a farewell Fleetwood Mac tour – to which she answered ‘no’ – Stevie revealed she never intended ‘The Lighthouse’ to be a chart-topping hit.
“I’m not interested in it anyway, because I’m the only person that isn’t always on a phone,” she elaborated, adding to interviewer Angie Martoccio that her iPhone isn’t connected to the internet.
“I’m envious of that,” responded the reporter, leading the ‘Everywhere’ artist to continue.
“I hate it. About 10 years ago, Katy Perry was talking to me about the internet armies of all the girl singers, and how cruel and rancid they were.
“I said, ‘Well, I wouldn’t know because I’m not on the internet.’”
Nicks further claimed that Perry inquired about her ‘rivals’, prompting the singer to give her a ‘steely look’.
“I said, ‘Katy, I don’t have rivals. I have friends. All the other women singers that I know are friends. Nobody’s competing. Get off the internet and you won’t have rivals either.’”
