Sadie Sink from Stranger Things has offered her perspective on what she thinks truly happened to Eleven.
On the last day of December, viewers of Stranger Things were treated to an extensive finale, concluding nearly a decade of the show being on air.
The series, one of the most prominent on Netflix, helped catapult stars like Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Joe Keery, and Caleb McLaughlin into fame.
Many cast members of Stranger Things have grown up before the audience’s eyes, making the series finale especially poignant. A key topic of discussion since the series concluded has been the fate of Eleven.
It appears that Eleven perished when the Upside Down was obliterated, but Mike proposed a more hopeful notion. He suggested that their telekinetic companion might have managed to flee and that the Eleven seen ‘dying’ at the gate was merely a mirage.
Essentially, the conclusion has been left up to the audience’s imagination, with the only individuals who truly know Eleven’s fate being Millie Bobby Brown and the show’s creators, according to IGN.
Like the fans, the rest of the cast are also unaware of the true events surrounding the main character’s fate, leaving them to draw their own conclusions.
Sadie Sink, who played Max in the show, was recently questioned about her opinion on the matter and whether she believes Eleven is alive or not.
During her appearance on The Tonight Show, she admitted to Jimmy Fallon, “I think she’s dead, I don’t know.” Her remark prompted disappointment from the audience.
Sink elaborated: “Is that like a hot take or something? I think Mike’s story is just one last story, and then they say goodbye to childhood. But that’s just one final tale. And that’s it. I think it’s just like a coping thing.”
She concluded, “That’s my interpretation, I’m sorry.”
The creators of Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer, have provided insight into why they opted to leave Eleven’s story somewhat ambiguous.
Matt explained to Tudum: “There are two roads that Eleven could take. There’s this darker, more pessimistic one or the optimistic, hopeful one. Mike is the optimist of the group and has chosen to believe in that story.”
Ross added: “We thought it would be beautiful if our characters continued to believe in that happier ending even if we didn’t give them a clear answer to whether that’s true or not.
“The fact that they’re believing in it, we just thought it was such a better way to end the story and a better way to represent the closure of this journey and their journey from children to adults.”
