Raphaël Graven, a streamer known online as Jean Pormanove or ‘JP’, has passed away while live streaming in France.
At the age of 46, Pormanove had built a substantial following of hundreds of thousands across social media platforms such as TikTok and Twitch, where he produced diverse content.
His videos ranged from gaming sessions to more controversial challenges, including one involving sleep deprivation, with some content depicting him in situations where he appeared mistreated or humiliated.
Although his Twitch account shows he was last online on August 18, La Parisien reports that Pormanove’s death occurred during the night of August 17-18 in Contes, close to Nice, France.
Another content creator, known as Naruto, who collaborated with Pormanove on some projects, confirmed the news.
In an Instagram post, Naruto wrote (translated): “I’ve always dreaded the day I’d have to write these words. Sadly, last night, JP (Raphaël Graven) left us. (…) I ask you all to respect his memory and not share the video of his last breath in his sleep.”
Following Pormanove’s death, authorities in Nice stated that “the death of a man in a room rented for live video game sessions” had been confirmed.
The Times of India noted that before his passing, Pormanove had participated in an online challenge known as ‘ten days and nights of torture’.
This challenge reportedly involved elements such as ‘extreme’ physical violence, ‘sleep deprivation’, and ‘ingestion of toxic products’.
According to Dexerto, Pormanove sent a message to his mother days before his death, expressing his frustration with the streaming activities, saying he was ‘fed up’.
His passing comes after an earlier incident in January when Naruto and another streamer, Safine, were taken into custody as part of an investigation related to alleged violence against vulnerable individuals; however, they were eventually released.
Tributes are pouring in for the streamer. One TikTok user shared (translated): “Today we gather to say goodbye to Jean Pormanove and to pay tribute to a life that meant so much to so many of us. Jean was a genuine person: attentive to others, generous without ostentation, capable of a smile that lit up a room. He knew how to listen, reassure, and give his time selflessly.
“Everyone here has precious memories of moments of laughter, of support, of words that comforted. It is this human legacy, made up of small gestures and loyalty, that will remain stronger than absence. We mourn his passing, but we also celebrate the richness of his life and what he passed on to us.
“May his memory inspire us to live with the same kindness and generosity. Rest in peace, Jean, you will be deeply missed.”
