The memorial service for Charlie Kirk is being organized with strict measures due to ‘several threats’ received.
On September 10, Kirk was assassinated during an event at Utah Valley University, part of his Turning Point USA tour.
The 31-year-old activist was shot in the neck, and the shooter fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Within two days, law enforcement officials apprehended a suspect, naming 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who now faces charges.
Robinson’s charges include aggravated murder, two counts of obstruction of justice, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, two counts of witness tampering, and committing a violent offense in the presence of a child.
There is a possibility that Robinson could also face federal charges.
Republicans nationwide are mourning Kirk’s premature death, with thousands expected to attend his memorial on September 21 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk founded, has issued specific guidelines for attendees on Sunday.
Attendees are asked to dress in ‘Sunday best’ attire in red, white, or blue, and bags will not be allowed inside the stadium.
Those arriving with bags will be turned away, according to Turning Point USA.
Fox News reports that flowers will also not be allowed at the venue, with attendees encouraged to donate online if they wish to pay their respects.
“It has been challenging, we can’t deny that,” officer M. Mendez from the Glendale Police Department told The US Sun regarding the memorial’s organization.
“We’re prepared. We’re confident that we will be able to take care of any matters that arise and keep the public safe, all the attendees, and anyone that is in the area,” Mendez stated.
Mendez further commented: “We don’t know an exact number but we are expecting some people coming to protest, whatever their message is, whether it’s for or against this memorial service or what Charlie Kirk stands for, we don’t know, but we will be prepared.
“We have a specific team assigned and designated to take care of them and there will be an area designated for them. We’ve been working non-stop with all our partnering agencies, but we have to do it, you know, it’s our duty, and we take pride in keeping our community safe.”
On the night before the funeral, reports emerged that a 42-year-old man had been arrested a couple of days prior while conducting a ‘security sweep’ of the venue.
