Surgeon discloses the key food that may aid in preventing colon cancer

A surgeon has disclosed a particular food that can contribute to the prevention of colon cancer.

Research over the years has explored how dietary choices may reduce the likelihood of developing specific types of cancer.

Even dieticians have cautioned against certain widely-used supplements that could potentially lead to cancer.

Karan Rangarajan, also recognized as Dr. Karan Rajan, shares health tips on TikTok, and he has recently highlighted a specific food that helps combat colon cancer.

It’s generally understood that fiber plays a critical role in gut health, a point emphasized by Dr. Rajan in his video, noting that good bacteria in the gut facilitate regular bowel movements and slow digestion.

In addition, there is one particular food recommended for consumption to potentially aid in the prevention of colon cancer.

“Kiwi is particularly rich in soluble fiber, which promotes softer stool and increases stool frequency without the associated side effects of some laxatives,” Dr. Rajan stated.

Nutritionists have long advocated for kiwi due to its anti-inflammatory properties and high vitamin C content.

These attributes may offer protection against cellular damage that can lead to the development of cancer, as noted by experts.

A study conducted in 2023 investigated the relationship between different fruit consumption types and colorectal cancer risk, revealing that fruits like kiwi, citrus fruits, apples, and watermelon can lower the risk of colon cancer.

The study concluded that a higher intake of these fruits, compared to a lower intake, can decrease the colon cancer risk by nine percent.

These findings are likely to be closely noted by many, given that The American Cancer Society projects ‘about 106,590 new cases of colon cancer’ in 2024.

Colon cancer is also identified as the ‘second most common cause of cancer deaths’ in the United States.

Dr. Waqqas Tai, a cancer specialist, explained earlier this year some symptoms that might signal colon cancer.

If you notice your stool is thinner than a pen or pencil, Dr. Tai advises consulting a doctor as this could indicate a tumor is compressing your colon.

He also highlighted concerns over low blood counts, stating: “If you’re anaemic on a complete blood count (CBC), for men, there is no healthy reason a man should be anaemic.

“Women, if you don’t have heavy periods, you also should not have a low hemoglobin. And so you also need a colonoscopy.”
