Sydney Sweeney won’t be appearing in a cameo in the upcoming sequel to The Devil Wears Prada.
The Euphoria actor had been widely linked to the follow-up to the beloved 2006 film, which originally starred Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, with speculation that she’d pop up in a brief role.
However, a source told Entertainment Weekly that although a cameo sequence was shot for an early portion of the movie, it was later removed following what was described as a “creative decision”.
The rumours picked up momentum after Sweeney was seen leaving a trailer alongside Emily Blunt while the production was filming.
Despite the online chatter, writer Aline Brosh McKenna pushed back on the idea that set sightings meant a confirmed appearance.
She told Screenrant: “There were a lot of photos from the set of various people. And then there were those memes, where it was like, ‘So-and-so is in the movie. So- and-so is in the movie.’ It became a running joke about who people had seen on set and were in the movie.”

McKenna also declined to offer any hint that Sweeney’s involvement extended beyond the speculation.
She said: “Well, you saw the movie. She’s not in the movie.”
Sweeney isn’t the only name that has been floated as a cameo only for it to apparently not materialise in the finished version.
Anna Wintour — Condé Nast’s global chief content officer and artistic director, and Vogue editor from 1988 to 2025 — had also been rumoured to feature. Wintour is frequently cited as a key inspiration for Miranda Priestley, Streep’s famed character in the first film.
That cameo, however, is also said to be absent from the final cut.
Additional reported cuts include Conrad Ricamora (who had been cast as the roommate of Hathaway’s character, Andy) and Jessica Chastain.

The original movie centred on aspiring journalist Andy, who lands a coveted assistant role working for the intimidating editor Miranda Priestley — despite having little interest in fashion and initially struggling to fit into that world.
As the story unfolds, Andy begins to understand the influence of the industry, develops new perspective, and gradually earns Miranda’s respect while learning some hard lessons along the way.
Two decades on from the first film, Hathaway and Streep are returning, alongside original cast members Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, who played the magazine’s artistic director and Andy’s mentor figure.
The sequel will also introduce new faces, including Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, Caleb Hearon, Patrick Brammall, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, Conrad Ricamora, and B.J. Novak.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is currently scheduled to hit cinemas on May 1, 2026.
