Sydney Sweeney’s latest Euphoria scene slammed as ‘brutalization of women’ as star goes topless

Euphoria viewers are once again reacting in disbelief as the show’s latest run pushes further into controversial territory.

After a four-year wait, the HBO Max series has returned for its third season (which many fans believe could be the last). Responses have been divided, particularly following a storyline in which Sydney Sweeney’s character, Cassie, launches an OnlyFans account.

In the new episodes, Cassie reportedly turns to the platform as a way to fund an extravagant wedding to her boyfriend Nate Jacobs, played by Wuthering Heights actor Jacob Elordi.

Week after week, the season’s explicit moments have continued to escalate. One earlier episode featured Cassie wearing a baby-style outfit in a provocative pose, leaving audiences stunned.

Now, the show has leaned into a niche giant-themed fetish referred to as macrophilia, and some viewers say the repeated NSFW scenes have crossed a line—prompting accusations that the series is becoming a “brutalisation of women.”

In one of the more graphic sequences, Cassie is shown straining against the seams of a catsuit as she transforms into a towering “giant,” in a scene that echoes the style of Godzilla.

From there, she ramps up the destruction—stomping through a miniature town and then crushing a skyscraper with her nipples. Earlier in the episode, she’s also depicted sucking her own toes while singing the nursery rhyme “My Little Piggy.”

With five episodes now released, some fans say they’ve reached their limit. Many took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their frustration with the direction of the season.

“I’m convinced this season of Euphoria is a Sydney Sweeney humiliation ritual,” said one enraged fan, while another went even further.

“How do you go from writing a story about a vulnerable teenage girl with mental illness and addiction struggles to writing the most VILE brutalisation of women in your third season,” another wrote.

Another fan questioned: “Does Sydney Sweeney really like doing this much nudity? Like I won’t police a woman if she enjoys this, but woah.”

A fourth said: “Sydney Sweeney they just can’t be paying you enough for all this like the money can’t be that good.”

Despite the backlash online, Sweeney appears to see the moment very differently.

In a behind-the-scenes clip tied to the episode, she said: “The Cassie-zilla sequence was probably the coolest thing I’ve ever done!”

“I think for Cassie, she knows what she’s chasing and what she’s going to sacrifice to give herself over to Hollywood.”

The production itself was also a major undertaking. Writer-director Sam Levinson has said the miniature sets used in the sequence took close to a year to build.

Dedication!
