Fans of Taco Bell have recently experienced a surprising revelation involving a Mandela Effect related to coin boxes at the popular fast-food chain.
The Mandela Effect is one of those phenomena that remain baffling. How can large groups of people collectively remember something inaccurately?
This phenomenon is indeed perplexing, yet numerous instances exist to support it.
Take for example the Monopoly Man, the character from the Monopoly board game. Did you assume he wears a monocle? It turns out he does not.
After digesting that tidbit, you might turn your focus to another Mandela Effect example shared on a Facebook group called ‘Mandela Effect & Glitches In The Matrix’.
In this group, a woman posed a question about whether the coin boxes once seen at Taco Bells ever actually contained water.
With the rise of card payments, charity coin boxes are less common, yet many Taco Bell patrons vividly recall them.
She posted: “I know most of us will remember these at Taco Bell. The Taco Bell’s local to me had them up until about 10 years ago.”
In her recollection, she noted a particular instance when the coin box ‘didn’t have water in it any more’.
“I found it very strange that I said at the time ‘well that’s dumb! They don’t even have water in them anymore’,” she remembered.
The real question is, did these coin boxes ever contain water?
She insisted: “I clearly remember they used to hold water. Nobody I’ve ever discussed with recalls the water but I am 100% certain they DID used to be full of water. Anyone else remember them with water?”
The conversation quickly expanded, with many agreeing with the woman, and one person confidently stating they ‘1000000%’ did.
Still, not everyone agreed, sparking a lively debate online.
Some proposed a simpler explanation, suggesting there might have been two different types of boxes—some with water and some without. Others speculated that they all initially contained water but were drained due to leaks.
A commenter even shared an image of a coin box, although slightly different in design, as evidence that they once held water.
What do you remember about them?
