A teenage girl told her mom she had ‘found’ a newborn baby on their porch, but the real story soon emerged.
During Thanksgiving, Kira Peoples was at a relative’s house while her 16-year-old daughter, Peyton, stayed home alone.
Kira returned to find not only her daughter at home but also a newborn baby. Peyton claimed that the infant had been left on their porch.
Kira turned to social media seeking assistance and donations for baby clothes. They also contacted 911, and Detroit police took Peyton to the hospital to confirm she was not the baby’s mother.
At the hospital, Peyton admitted that the baby was indeed hers. Unaware of her pregnancy, she had given birth to her son, whom she named Paxton, in the bathroom.
Peyton was ‘terrified’ initially and concocted the story about the baby being abandoned on their doorstep.
Explaining her lie to her mom, Peyton told Fox 2 Detroit: “It’s hard. It was already hard for her to raise us, and that just added another burden on her back, and I didn’t want to do that.”
Kira views baby Paxton as a ‘blessing’ but is saddened that her daughter had to give birth alone.
Recalling the birth moment, Peyton shared: “I was laying in bed and my water broke, so I went into the bathroom and had Paxton.
“I cleaned him off and then looked up on TikTok how to cut my umbilical cord. I cut the cord and then wiped him off again.”
As Kira is already a single mother of four, and with Peyton still in school, the family has started a GoFundMe page to raise funds for Paxton’s future and to support the family. At the time of writing, over $25,000 has been raised.

The GoFundMe description by Kira reads: “Our family is facing a situation we never saw coming. My 16-year-old daughter Peyton recently gave birth at home without knowing she was pregnant. She was scared and alone, and in her panic, she told me that someone had left a baby on our porch.
“We called the police, and the baby was taken to the hospital. When officers asked us to come in to rule out any connection, she finally broke down and told the truth.”
She added: “Baby Paxton was never on the porch at any point. He is a healthy baby boy.
“I plan to work the midnight shift while my daughter Peyton goes back to school so we can both take care of the new blessing.”
